Hmmm... the production was great..... the issue was they did it with little to no notice which caused major issues for listeners and the station, Energy in particular.   Y actually came with a format change but still took a little bit if memory serves me to build back up again.    

Bell did push this change hard with the limited time they had, so it may not play out the same way for Virgin.   I have said here, Virgin is the big loser in this due to the signal they moved to being what it is, but I have always got the logic of why they felt this was the right move.    105.3 covered areas that the other Virgins at 97.5 and 99.9 don't.    And realistically Bounce will not make any huge extra money from being heard in London or Goderich or Owensound.    It will give them more regional coverage plus better coverage in Stratford, Woodstock, Hamilton and even Guelph that they didn't have, which could give them a few extra buys.    Virgin will not get more buys... perhaps a little less.    I also see gains Virgin made against 91.5 likely will be reversed because 91.5 is a stronger signal now.  We will see in the upcoming ratings out of KW.   

As for 99.5 having HD, it will work well with the Virgin format... but the only reason they added HD was to stop the Buffalo signal from taking over.   Analog may come in fine but if the distant signal has HD, a HD radio will flip to the HD signal over the local analog.    Adding HD locally will stop this for the most part which was for sure the logic in Kitchener, and 99.5 is a fairly new site... so not expensive to add vs 105.3 which I'm sure would need some major work done to accommodate.

How is Hamilton's best Rock Y 95 moving to Y108 Hamilton's best rock a format change???

 

Y95 was Classic Rock when it went to 108 it became mainstream and then active rock, it's shifted between mainstream and active over the years.

I don't know how many Bounce stations are still around.  Bell sold some but the KW outlet survived and still owned by the company.  Bounce in Hamilton at 102.9 was sold and is now Legend 102.9.

The Kitchener station has a local morning show with Angie and Sarge.  Both are well known locally and K/W is still small enough that you see them out in the community and sometimes on location.  The afternoon show from 2-7pm is also local with Michelle Cruise another long time local on air personality.  Mid day we have Tarzan Dan who is on various Bounce stations but he does local breaks, and has been talking a lot about the frequency flip between Virgin Kitchener and Bounce.to 105.3 

Overall not a bad station but at 99.5 had issues with sound quality from time to time and with voice tracking which was sometimes over modulated and muddy.  The station will likely do well with the increased coverage at 105.3.  As was mentioned earlier Bounce is close musically to when 105.3 was the long running KOOL FM years ago and prior to Virgin.
