According to an ad for Audacy's WKSE, it's between $65-75,000 a year. They're looking for a new morning personality for the station at 98.5 and that's the salary range being offered.
According to thelast available ratings from February, WKSE was fifth in the books in Buffalo, hitting 5.5. Buffalo/Niagara Falls is currently ranked as the #59 market overall in the U.S.

You can be quite comfortable in Buffalo for that:

I wonder how much a morning host in K/W or Regina would make per year.

Fun fact: The morning shows at Beat, Dave, Virgin, and Country are either syndicated from another market or to other markets.

"Other duties as required by Management" Don't forget that part before getting all excited about wages...

I was making $30,000 in 1979/80 doing all nights at CFPL in London. That was good money back then especially for all nights.

Bounce and CHYM have their own morning show and of course CBC Kitchener. I was curious about a medium market like Regina because I heard that stations out west (other than some of the majors) tend to pay better than Ontario. All that oil money in Alberta and Saskatchewan wages are higher even at a Tim Horton's or part time and cost of living overall lower in those two provinces.

I was making about half that doing overnights at CHML from 1991-93. ![]()

CFPL Radio/TV/Free Press/Penny Saver paid their staff above average salaries. I remember the first time going into the building on York Street. The reception area was huge and very plush, more like a bank. The building had a full cafeteria that offered homestyle cooking and the company subsidized costs so everything was very reasonably priced. I was amazed how anyone in radio that had a title had their own large office. The music library was a real library and had a staff of three.
Radio and the Free Press were in the same building but AM/FM and radio news were completely separate from the paper. Loved the city, working at PL but I learned quickly that I wasn't an all night person and didn't see much of a chance for advancement since the daytime on air staff was so stable. But, life being what it is, if I had stayed about six months longer there might have been an opportunity for an evening shift.

How much does a morning radio host make in Toronto? Reportedly, John Derringer was dragging down big bucks before his spectacular 'cancellation'.

Roger Ashby was reported to be making over $1 million per year at CHUM FM during his last years at the station. Marilyn must be up there as well, especially when she had the TV show and co-hosting mornings.
The morning host at CFNY over a decade ago was making about $450,000 per year.

Nowhere near as much now, I'd probably put them in the $100-150K range, and even that might be a stretch.
The days of Derringer and Ashby salaries are not coming back. Excluding the soon-retiring Marilyn Denis, I'd guess that the Toronto market's two best-paid current morning show talent are John Moore and Stu Jeffries, both of whom have been where they are for quite a while now.
Boom hosts have been doing *very* well on ratings bonuses.
Roz & Mocha are up there too. Helps when people try to poach you.

You'd be very wrong.... unless you're at a small shop like Evanov or Indie, most of the morning hosts are pulling 300 or more... easily.

I was around when a morning host signed for less than 200K just a few years ago. Salaries aren't going up.
Two other two person morning shows I worked with collectively earned less than 400K.
The few individuals at 300K would be the ones already mentioned upthread.
I agree salaries are not going up, however those mentioned in the thread (Stu, Marilyn, Moore, Roz & Mocha) would be well past 300K.... There's at least 8 people in Toronto radio over 500k I can count off the top of my head. I've been around long enough to know what it costs to retain them. Your "b-tier" crop would be around 300, and your small shops are 100-150 if you're lucky. Some of these are completely unjustifiable in 2026, but companies feel they have no safe alternative. That house of cards will collapse when Marilyn & Moore retire, Roz ages out of Kiss, and when someone at Stingray realizes that all Stu does is read the prep service word-for-word....

I wonder what Wally and Jay got paid when they were #1 and 2 in morning drive here.

Overnights in Vancouver 92-94, CJJRFM paid me a measly 22 grand per year. Pattison kept his people hungry.

When Ismaila Alfa began hosting Metro Morning a number mentioned about was 200 plus a prodigious moving/accommodation assistance. With his multiple roles at CBC I would think David Common is a 350K man. That would make whatshername hosting The National a 500K woman. And I'm happy to report the boss of both, Cathy Perry, began her pension this week at a comfortable (I estimate) 150K.

Pretty average for the time. I made that in '98.

Alan Pergament of the Buffalo News reveals what some of those on local TV make for working in a smaller market. In some cases, those in less prominent roles are paid so little, they're forced to take second jobs.
Imagine seeing the person who brings you the weather bagging your bread at a local Tops Friendly Market!
"To supplement their income, I’ve been told local broadcast journalists have worked at restaurants, grocery stores, as camera operators for sports events and in one case even operated a travel agency."
