Would You Want This Feature To Be Able To Interrupt Your Car Radio?

I suppose this is a good thing, but it has the real potential to annoy rather than help.

It's the story of a potentially new feaure for Teslas, (although it's also in other cars) that's designed to warn you of a traffic tie-up you may unknowingly be heading into. It sounds like Waze, but this thing will interrupt whatever you're listening to  - radio, podcast, SiriusXM etc - to tell you what's ahead to help you avoid it.

"The entertainment system detects when there’s a traffic report, mutes your entertainment and turns on the announcement. If it doesn’t impact your drive, or you don’t want to hear it, the feature is easily stopped to get back to your tunes."

I suppose it would be helpful, but imagine if you were just about to get to the good part of a radio broadcast or podcast and it suddenly went silent and by the time you cancelled the interruption, it was over.

Would you want this in your car?

Tesla to add Radio Traffic Announcements in future update

Re: Would You Want This Feature To Be Able To Interrupt Your Car Radio?

We had this at CHFI in the early 80's.  We'd press the button just for fun and to interrupt the 1 listener who had the thing in their car.  It was only Blaupunkt radios.   With 680 doing traffic every 45 seconds on the 16's why would anyone need this in Toronto anyway?

Blaupunkt's 80s traffic report system, known as ARI (Autofahrer-Rundfunk-Information), was a pioneering technology that automatically identified and boosted radio stations broadcasting traffic updates. Featuring a dedicated ARI button, it allowed users to receive traffic announcements even while listening to cassette tapes, making it a staple for 80s European driving

Madness takes its toll.  Please have exact change.

I wondered about the 680 thing, too. Even more useless in Vancouver, in the days when they had the all traffic station. But it looks like its coming to some vehicles whether they want it or not.

Quite the odd, unnecessary tehcnology mashup

No-one in their proper mind is buying a new Tesla. The company is is done like a microwave dinner.

Some may purchase used, but they deserve what they get.

Speaking of Teslas...

I couldn’t live with the idea of my kids trapped in my Tesla. Here’s how I hacked it so the doors open in an emergency

Re: Would You Want This Feature To Be Able To Interrupt Your Car Radio?

Driving home from Florida last month, we ran into long delays on two consecutive days. The first day in GA due to an accident. The second day in KY due to construction. I don't believe this feature would have helped at all. I'd have had no idea about any alternative routes available.

After all is said and done, more is usually said than done.

I read this article yesterday and found it disturbing. I had no idea about Tesla doors, scary! Serious design flaw.

Have had one for a few years now, on my keyring, thankfully haven’t had to use it and hope I never will!

Will it work on a Tesla when a shovel broke and the window did not?
