One of the most memorable bloopers from TV’s early days occurred in 1954 when CBS debuted a new morning show called “Good Morning with Will Rogers Jr.” Rogers was best known as the offspring of the well-known American cowboy humorist Will Rogers, so the producers thought it would be funny to launch the first episode with Junior riding a horse through downtown New York and arriving at the studio. In those days of live TV, no one counted on the fact that Junior hadn’t ridden a horse in many years and that the animal would be skittish in the noise and traffic. Just as the horse hit his mark and Junior began to speak, the poor animal answered nature’s call by taking a massive dump in the middle of the street. As the network cut away from the scene, the voice of the show’s newscaster could be heard saying “Good God, what a f#ck up. On national television too.” Must have been quite a post-show meeting after that one.
