The reasons why the CBC has suddenly disappeared from Spectrum Cable in Western New York isn't clear. But as the NHL playoffs approach, some hockey fans are upset about the loss. The cable company is fudging the reason for the sudden removal, saying only this:
“CBC remains part of Spectrum lineup (Channel 16) but is temporarily unavailable due to insufficient signal delivery from the out-of-market provider. We’re working to resolve and identify a long-term solution.”
If nothing else, it proves there are places where people are anxious to watch the Corp.'s output!
CBC affiliate is off of Spectrum. The cable company is 'reviewing options'

CBLT has been co channel with WWHC from south Buffalo for few years now. Both on RF 20.Spectrum needs to move their receive antenna up to lake Ontario shoreline.WWHC is approved to move off RF 20 to RF 17 on Grand Island.CBC and Industry Canada should have objected to use of RF 20 in Niagara area.

It's a technical problem, NOT a business decision.
Surely Americans understand...just as long as things are fixed in time for the big game(s)

Spectrum receives CBLT via antenna. They used to have a receive antenna on Seneca ave in Niagara Falls, NY where you could receive CBLT no problem and CFTO which they took later off because of reception problems, Spectrum moved their antenna to West Seneca where you have problems with WWHC and the fact that West Seneca is much further away south of Buffalo. I live in Niagara Falls close to the Whirlpool and get CBLT perfectly OTA. I can't get CFTO because they are low power and on High VHF.

At one time Western New York cable companies carried CBLT, CFTO and chch. Now it is just CBLT and I think only in SD. Most of the cable companies in the U.S. that operate in cities close to the border generally carry CBC. CTV is available in Plattsburgh/Burlington, Watertown and Sault. St. Marie.

Spectrum using an antenna in West Seneca for CBLT is lost cause with WWHC being 15db stronger.

TVO website says they will be at reduced power until May 15th due transmission line repairs.CBLT/TVO/CBLFT all share the same transmitter/antenna.

Same antenna, yes, but each station has its own separate transmitter.

According to the Buffalo News, CBLT returned to Spectrum Cable Monday night, then disappeared again on Tuesday. The paper says engineers are working on the problem and hope to have a permanent fix soon.
I had to laugh when this sentence appeared in the article:
"Besides missing “Hockey Night in Canada,” WNYers who receive CBLT tell me they’ve missed several of their programs, including “Coronation Street,” “The National,” “The Fifth Estate,” “The Nature of Things” and “This Hour has 22 Minutes.”
Corrie viewers in Western New York? Who knew?

Corrie had a following across the US, back in the 1990's, when CBC had it's analogue feed on the Anik bird and satellite TV involved having a big, steerable dish in your yard. The Anik C-band beam covered the whole continent.
As for Spectrum's reception problems, if CBC approved, they could get the feed via ExpressVu or Shaw (Cancom).

Hockey fans on cable in Buffalo are apparently breathing a sigh of relief knowing they'll be able to watch all the NHL playoff games shown on this side of the border.
"...a Spectrum spokesperson emailed that a new piece of equipment was installed “to try and stabilize the signal from Canadian programmer.”
So they've got their CBC feed back on local cable. It's still not entirely clear what the original problem was or if the fix will work long term.
