Rogers has pulled its support for Viceland Television, the cable company replacement for what used to be The Biography Channel. When this thing first launched, they trumpeted how it was "different" from other stations and would attract millennials by the thousands.
Didn't happen.
Instead, the few times I ever saw it, it was extremely left wing, seemed to always be in reruns and committed the worst sin any channel could - it was simply dull. Every episode I ever saw seemed to have something to do with Indigenous people. Important, sure, but way too repetitive.
It appears the station's future is bleak and unless it can find a backer, it's likely doomed in Canada. Now what will City TV show before their news on the weekends?
The U.S. version continues, with added exposure on HBO in the States, partly backed by dough from "Real Time" host Bill Maher.

Unfortunately for viceland, the millennials are watching Youtube, not TV and certainly not paying for cable TV...

The channel's shows are just largely unappealing to most people. You may be able to get an audience for multiple series about obese guys eating food or recreational drug use on a platform where you're pulling from the globe's collective fringes, but as a localized TV network? Clearly, not a winning strategy and one most would've been able to see on day-1.

Probably the same mold they use to plug up the rest of their schedule: Murdoch Mysteries, Mantracker, Mr. D, Young Drunk Punk, Seed, Storage Wars Canada, Second Jen. Maybe even the Viceland content if they keep ownership of the Canadian originals.

And don't forget about the 562nd rerun of Modern Family.

562nd is a huge lowball. Maybe 5620th.

This is a perfect example of Pick N Pay: the audience votes with their subscription. No dough: bye-bye. 🙈

So much for the progressive values they supposedly stand for in their shows.
Harassment is awful and inexcusable. But in some ways, the holier-than-thou hypocrisy about that harassment is even worse.
