I actually got to see the Tonight Show live when I was in L.A. back in 1986. The home audience really misses nothing during the commercial breaks. The studio lights go down and you listen to the Doc Severisen band. The band is loud and really good. The only exception is the break after the opening monologue. Johnny would answer a few questions from the studio audience. The studio had plush comfortable seating for 500. The set was surprisingly small. The edge of Carson's desk is quite close to the edge of where the band sits. To give the illusion of a large set, three cameras were used. One for the band, one for desk and couch and one for the performers. Seated by 4;30pm. Out the door at 5;30pm.

CHCH is not airing The Rockford Files today or tomorrow , but all the other regularly scheduled shows are on. Curious as to why. It is being replaced today by Knight Rider, and a movie on Christmas Day. I needs my Jimmy ! 

A plausible explanation. CHCH is airing the shows in their original sequence , which I appreciate. 

CHCH has also started running Mod Squad weekdays at 3pm. Peggy Lipton was soooo hot to teenage guys back in 1968.

You should be able to X off the ad and see what's underneath it. Try again.

But there aren't a lot of details on it, just that it's in the planning stage for a pilot.

Newly paroled after doing time for a crime he didn’t commit, James Rockford returns to his life as a private investigator using his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles. It doesn’t take long for his quest for legitimacy to land him squarely in the crosshairs of both local police and organized crime."

The key will be casting and how they update it for modern times. For one thing, that phone message at the start of the show should be replaced by a cell phone at the very least!

Just to reiterate - this is in the planning stages at the moment. It's not a done deal and it may never actually turn up on TV. But development is the first move to actually giving it a greenlight and it may or may not actually get made.

I'm not sure how they plan to do Rockford without Garner, but this might interest you.

And now we know who the new "Rockford" might be. It's David Boreanaz, the star of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," "Angel," and more recently, "Bones" and "Seal Team." He also has a special tie to Buffalo and the GTA - he's the son of Dave Thomas, aka the one time host of the well remembered kids' show "Rocketship 7" on WKBW-TV.

Important to note this is still only a pilot. Producers will have to see how it turns out and if NBC, the home of the original series, buys it. But if that happens, at least you know who will be playing the all important lead. So what will this one be about?
