He became a huge star simply by saying "Come On Down!" But the later Price Is Right announcer Rod Roddy did not have an easy time getting to that show. He battled both serious alcoholism and had severe money woes while working in radio (including an early stint at WKBW-AM in Buffalo) before finally finding success.
"Working in the radio business when he got in, in his 20s, was a very secure, underpaid position until you got into a reasonable market. So he was living hand to mouth at the beginning. He did very well in radio, but he was also drinking quite a bit, so that was a challenge to him."
Fortunately he turned his life around and found success beyond his dreams during his lifetime, before sadly succumbing to cancer in 2003. So he was able to come on up, before coming on back down.

That shows him middays at 1520 in 1963-65. I do not remember him being there when I started listening to KB in the later 60s.

Not only he was an announcer on TPIR. He also did other CBS game shows such as “Whew” and “Press Your Luck” before doing TPIR after Johnny Olson’s death in October 1985. He also was an announcer on other game shows like BattleStars, Love Connection and Hit Man. He also was a subsitute announcer on Family Feud, Card Sharks and the $25,000 Pyramid. He was also a guest announcer on Tom Bergeron’s Hollywood Squares in 2002. He also voiced for other american TV commercials such as Penzoil and Public Storage.

And of course his trademark became his outrageous outfits that he wore every show, even though he only briefly appeared on camera.
