What an awful waste of time and space those 17 pages turned out to be for the majority of members

I sent a private note to RA on September 20th of last year urging him to do the right thing and stop letting the board be dragged down like it was

I am so very glad he has reacted in the manner he has

It actually worked quite well to contain almost all politically inclined posts - those who wanted to read these could, those who did not weren't tripping over it. The airwaves on the main radio-related threads were relatively free of political interference in large part because it had its own section.

This happens every now and then for reasons only Boardhost can explain. Except they choose not to. The good news is it's usually fixable and doesn't happen often.

I try very hard not to censor or ban users - I think there have been about four in all the years I've been doing it. I believe in free speech, but I also know there are limits to everything. While I found that political thread interesting, even the most faithful fan of it will have to admit it simply did not belong here. I left it up for almost a year before the inevitable happened - it started dividing people and we were getting close to the name calling stage.

I've tried so hard to keep that away from here and for the most part, have succeeded. I sensed it was going to get overly divisive and people were going to start tearing at each other - which is what this kind of thread too often brings out. So, because it was so far off topic for SOWNY and it was veering in a direction that could only lead to division and derision, I decided to call a halt to it. 

Agree or disagree with the decision, you can at least say I let it go for almost a full year despite endless complaints. I think the point has been made and we all need to move on.

I really appreciate your point of view Saul and I thank you for the comment. I did not make this decision easily and in fact, had been debating it over and over for quite a while. But even you would have to admit it's severely off topic for a radio board. And I'm trying to get back to that. But I do understand why some will be disappointed by the choice. 

Which is exactly the problem. I have tried to play both sides but it was heading in the wrong direction and I hope those who are disappointed by the move will at least understand why it was made.
