The latest contest from Bell Media radio stations has absolutely nothing to do with actually listening to an actual radio. Instead, it's all about encouraging the use of its iHeart app.
The contest asks users to download the app, listen to any of the participating stations (including NT1010 and TSN1050) for at least 10 minutes and then enter to win.
The prize? One person will win tickets to see Rush in Toronto. (Oddly, Virgin 99.9 does not appear to be on the list of eligible stations.)
It used to be listen to your radio to win. Now it's listen on your phone. Another sign of how things have changed in the industry and why online is now more important than on air.

Rogers did the same for its Seekr platform with Taylor Swift tickets

Virgin listeners would have little interest in seeing Rush, or largely even knowing who they are,.

And TSN 1050 listeners do? And where is CHUM-FM in that list?
I guess it's possible that a listener from CJAY in Calgary or CFAX in Victoria would fly to Toronto to see the concert, but that would be at their own expense.

Absolutely TSN listeners do; it's Bell's best Toronto fit for Rush. CHUM-FM listeners also not even close to in-demo for Rush.
And it's actually a better content for those out of town:
The prize includes return airfare, premium tickets to see Rush, VIP access to the official Rush Xanadu pre-show lounge, two nights at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel and $500 spending money to make your trip even more epic!

Oddly, that copy did not turn up on my page, which was blank when I clicked on it. That, at least, is a better prize, but I still think they should involve more of their music stations. Some of their audience must know who Rush is. (Actually, it probably should be Corus' CFNY that should be giving away tickets, considering the song Rush did based on them.)
By the way, if a Toronto listener wins, is the price of that airfare somehow added to their prize?

Playing a promo for a Rush contest on a contemporary pop station is not a good use of limited on-air promo time. It would be like running a KPop contest on Q

Where's that guy who keeps saying that listening to a radio station online vs the same station via antenna are not the same things? ![]()

Speaking of Rush, I have noticed that AM740 has been playing them more plus The Guess Who, since they’re touring as well this year, CanCon classics!
