For most of its existence, Toronto's famous CHUM Chart paid tribute to the turning of the calendar year. Here's a look back at those first-of-the-year remembrances.

When I was a kid, these charts were available at a department store at a new mall called "Shoppers World". It was located at Victoria Park & Danforth beside the railroad yard just south of same.
I want to say it was an "Eatons", but my memory is fading badly lately. Sears? Naw, I'm pretty sure it was Eatons.
Anyway, they had a record dept that got all the latest 45s & LPs (I got my first Beatles LP there, and I'd never seen an LP disk before I was amazed!) and they had a lttle slot box next to the cash where you could grab the latest chart.
And I used to grab them regularly. CHUM was a big deal back then.
I swear, it all went down hill after that prick dropped the tower across Yonge St You just don't mess with an icon like that. Bad
Anyway, happy NY everyone, espc D Marsden & D Elwell ![]()
You guys are the reason I'm here ![]()

Sorry I shouldn't have derailed the thread. I'm drunk. What's your excuse?
Hee!

I noticed that on a lot of the charts, they're advertising the annual countdown of the top songs of the year. I always used to tune in for these, but since I rarely listen to music radio these days, I'm asking those who do - do any GTA stations still do this on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day?

Chubby Checker is still playing live all over the southern USA.

Here's a extra that they put out for the top 100 of 1969. This is the only extra that I still have but I seem to vaguely recall another one with a green outline where this one is blue:

I still have that CKFH 1970 Countdown chart as well but unfortunately it tore at the fold but is unharmed otherwise.
Here is another countdown chart that I discovered in a tape box along with the entire countdown, WKNR AM's top 113 of 1968. The only song missing from the tape was Fever Tree's San Francisco Girls. A Song I remember mainly from hearing on Buffalo Prog stations. Can't remember if Andy Frost played it on psyche Sunday. Also fun to note that The Camel Drivers actually beat the Beatles on the chart. Also the person who recorded the tape played Blue Cheer's Summertime Blues himself along with an intro but I did not include that.
You can hear some of the countdown here along with a CHFI new years show from 1988.

Correct. Eaton's was the anchor store at Shopper's World when it was built in 1962. Previously the Ford Motor Company operated here from 1921-53 before moving to Oakville.

Thanks to all who posted charts here, it is interesting to go through them and the different formats, like some listing the label they’re on. I used to look forward to stations playing their year end top “hit parades”, tape recorder at the ready! Thanks again SOWNY contributors.

Here's a real rarity in this part of the world. Someone brought these back to me after they visited the Land Down Under, a media world we were shut out of until streaming began. But they had good old Top 40 radio just like we did.
It's interesting to see songs that were big hits there that we've never heard of here. That may be because of Australian Content rules, similar to CanCon - they have to play at least 25% Aussie music between 5 AM and midnight. The edicts went into effect in 1974, which means these charts reflect that change.
I'm guessing 2SM was the CHUM of Sydney.

Online!

25 per cent Can-Con would be OK with me!

Here's a great site I just discovered. It features Top 40 charts from all over Canada, most from the 50s and 60s and some from the 70s.
Among the Toronto and Ontario samples you can see - very early CKFH (1957), CFGM's country listings, CKLW, CKOC, CJIQ (Hamilton, the former calls of CHAM, which is also there) CHML, CFOR Orillia, CKLB Oshawa, CHLO (when it was in London), more London listings from CJOE and CFPL, a CHYM Chart from Kitchener and even one from CHWO in Oakville.
CKBB is there as is CFCO, CJOY and CJBQ.
There's one from CFRB (yes CFRB had a listing once, with "hits" chosen by Wally Crouter) and even more unlikely, a "chart" from then still English CJBC.
The others from across the country provide a snapshot of what each radio station was doing at the time. The quality varies but it's quite an amazing time capsule.

This one is not a year end chart but is a yearly chart nevertheless. Taken from the Toronto Telegram. Something that I had forgotten I had:

That has got to be a very rare page Fitz! Looks to be in great shape. And taken from the Toronto Telegram makes it even more uncommon and a real gem. Well done!

Thank you Patererson. I found it when I was looking for the CFNY charts I posted to the other thread, I decided to post the charts bc I wanted to avoid the temptation to post to the political thread.
