Greg Brady and Mike Bendixen finally spilled the beans about what's coming on AM640 in the New Year on the morning show Wednesday, including plans for the afternoon time slot.
The big change is putting Ben Mulroney into PM drive in place of the departed John Oakley and giving former fill-in Brad Smith his old 9 AM-noon slot. The show will be called "No B.S." - after his initials. Good for Smith. I think he's earned the shot.
Alex Pierson retains her 12-3 PM spot.
Two hours of Mulroney's three hour affair will be broadcast nationally.
The changes start on Jan. 5th.

I noticed yesterday while programing my dvr that Global is airing " The Ben Mulrooney Show " between episodes of Border Security this evening. I hit record , more out of curiosity than anything.

How many Corus talk stations will be left this time next year?

Considering Corus' finances, I'd convinced myself they'd just extend the three remaining shows to 4 hours each.
Now that Mr. Smith is in the regular rotation, who is left on 640's fill in list?
Bring back Stafford! The hole he left has never been even close to filled.

Stafford has bigger issues than finding a job. Check out his interview on TorontoMike.com, and you will see his health is a disaster.

So true. He looks like hell, sounds like hell and I’ll take him as first dead guy in the 2026 bye-bye compilation.

Mike Stafford and Supriya Dwivedi dropped by in November for a 90 minute chat and I honestly thought he looked and sounded pretty great all things considered.

TorontoMike - please don't get me wrong, it was a great interview (although Supriya has really buried the lead on her departure from 640 but that's not for public consumption). I didn't like the way Staff looked or sounded. I hope I'm wrong.

I had a similar thought to you from his February 2025 appearance, but thought he looked and sounded a good deal better in his November 2025 appearance that TorontoMike linked to. I like Stafford and it's a good reminder how quickly things can unravel in one's life when things start to stack up, any one of which would be a major thing to deal with - his fall off a ladder while housepainting causing chronic pain and issues, being let go from 640, separation then death of a spouse, eviction/"renoviction", etc. He's still maintained his sense of humor and "twinkle in the eye" and ability to laugh at himself or the state of the world through all that, and to me that's part of what makes each TorontoMike catch-up with Stafford worth listening to for me.

Surpriya is actually visiting me again in two weeks, along with Reshmi Nair, so if you have a question that might unbury that lede, mike@torontomike.com is open!

Sidebar: Regarding one particular comment made above and it's not the one from jughead jones. "Be a member not a dick." a sentence and sentiment that's been quoted before here on the big yellow board comes to mind.
I wish Mike Stafford all the best in 2026.

I tuned into Brad Smith's show for the first time last week and he's a lot of fun. Also has a hell of an intro.
Change is a good thing and it'll help get 2026 off to a good start. I'm going to miss having Mark Towhey on-air every weekday over on 1010 except for the roundtable and the occasional Jerry Agar 11ish party appearance.
p.s. Mike and Mike were quite enjoyable when they filled in over the holidays on 640.

I thought the two Mikes were quite good as well. I guess we shouldn't be shocked when two talented, smart people can pull off an interesting radio show.

I like that intro, too, but if I'm not mistaken the opening lyrics refer to the 3-6 PM time period. So unless it's re-recorded, you may not be hearing it again once he starts the 9AM-12PM slot. A shame if that happens. It rocks.

Ben Mulroney clarified on Friday during his last morning show that the national portion of his afternoon show will come from 3-5 PM, with the local component airing for Toronto only in the final hour.
(By the way, who comes back on a Friday to do a one-off final show in a soon-to-be old time slot? I welcome the live component, but it seems weird to me.)

For his last hurrah in afternoon drive (he's moving to 9AM-noon in the revamped line-up starting Monday) Brad Smith had on a woman who was doing his tarot card reading. I thought it was an odd choice - someone doing something so visual on an audio medium? (Forget the fact that I happen to think it's all BS.)
It's not the first time this has happened on AM640. In early December, Ben Mulroney had on a magician who did a card trick on the radio.
For his next guest, maybe Smith can bring on a mime. There are some things that really don't work on the medium. I hope his choice of topics improves in his new time slot.
