Paul Harvey has been gone since 2009, but now he's part of the rest of his own story. The estate that controls the rights to the famous syndicated radio feature is suing a production company not only for using a part of the well loved segment in a TV show, but for changing the meaning to make it seem like Harvey was saying something he wasn't.

I used to listen to Harvey's 8;30am newscast on CKTB.

I loved The Rest Of The Story and Harvey had the perfect delivery. I believe it was written and researched by his son, and it was a must hear - when I could find it. I don't think it was the big deal in Canada it was in the U.S., but I always found it highly entertaining and the surprise ending was usually worth the listen.
Here's a sample if you've never heard it.

I never liked Harvey's old fashioned and rather naive political views, but once I went on a road trip across the US.
As I listened to Harvey on a radio station while driving through Nebraska it all made sense.

Pure serendipity that Mr. Harvey's 'The Rest of the Story' was being kicked around yesterday in a football bulletin board I frequent. I think that for at least 50% of the stories listened to, at some point I was hollering "FOR GOD'S SAKE, MAN, GET TO THE POINT!!!"

Paul Harvey was reared in tragedy. His father was a police officer, who was shot and killed by robbers during a hunting trip when the future radio star was just a kid. Everything followed from there, including the woman who became his wife winding up proposing marriage to him.
It was 75 years ago that he first went on air nationally and while he's long since passed on, the Rest of Paul Harvey's Story might have made a segment worthy of his own feature.

At BN, we sent his newscasts and ROTS out to stations via satellite. His work was a must-listen when we had the chance.
