Interesting read. For me, I think I like the Christmas songs that I heard when I was a kid, the classics if you will. I made a Festive playlist and the newest song on it is A Fairytale of New York by the Pogues, that was released in 1988, nearly 40 years ago. I would like to hear a new Christmas song by a contemporary artist that I actually enjoyed, maybe next year!

I don't have to hear this (or be aware that it even existed) to know this just has to be horrible.

I just looked at the December 20th Billboard Hot 100 and 30 of the top 40 songs are Christmas related. Oh and yes All I Want For Christmas Is You is #1 for the 20th non consecutive week.

As much as there's a few clinkers out there, I can't help but bob my head whenever Vince Guaraldi's 'Linus and Lucy' shows up. Strictly speaking, not a Christmas song, but often associated with the holiday.
Because it was written for A Charlie Brown Christmas and is played during a dance scene at a school Christmas function, it can be considered a Christmas song.
The question I ask is why is Sound of Music always aired by some channel at this time of the year and why My Favourite Things is often lumped in with the songs of this season?

I agree about “Linus and Lucy” being considered a Christmas song, and any song that was written for “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. But I also don’t quite get why The Sound of Music and songs from it are considered Christmas related. In fact, on the Herb Albert Christmas album they do “My Favourite Things”, what the heck!

Caught this on the SXM this week. During the opening secs I thought maybe an alternate version of the Cream song.

And now, I am going to suggest the best Christmas song I've yet encountered, and if you don't like this one, call a doctor:
Trans-Siberian Orchestra : Music Box Blues
There are lots of versions available, and some of them have just stunning vocals. It's a great song.
Merry Christmas to all!

I am on my own today, so no Holiday Hits for me. And tomorrow, it will mostly be gone from the radio airwaves until next October/November.

Sorry to hear that mace. I’ve been on my own at Christmas before but found listening to classic Christmas tunes actually made me feel better. Try it if this happens again for you, it may lift your spirits!

Congratulations to CKTB, the first (and so far only) talk station to actually have a live show on Sunday morning. It's the first time in four days anyone has even bothered.
The other stations have been nothing but rerolls, although Ben O'Hara-Byrne's weekend show on Corus was at least new material.
Can't wait for things to get back to normal on air. Four days is a long time to put up with reruns on radio.

Thanks Shorty Wave. I had Christmas Dinner on December 24th with my sister. Our parents are long gone. Neither of us are married or have children. She has Simon [Golden Retriever] to play with and I had three NFL games to watch. All good.

If you made it through the Dallas - Washington game enduring Nate Burleson's histrionics, you deserve a medal. 🤨

I did, but I fell asleep at halftime in the Denver/KC game.
