From everything I've heard about the former Saturday Night Live star, he's not a very nice guy. But that might be what will make this gloves-off documentary about Chevy Chase so intriguing.
It airs New Year's night at 8PM on CNN, and features a variety of former co-stars talking about this paradoxical man.
"Anchored by revealing interviews with collaborators and confidants – including Dan Aykroyd Beverly D’Angelo, Goldie Hawn, Lorne Michaels, Ryan Reynolds, and Martin Short – as well as Chase and his family, [director Marina] Zenovich cuts through the legend to reveal the complicated man beneath the smirk. Featuring rare home movies, decades of rich archival footage, and intimate new moments that capture Chase at his most unguarded, "I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not" is a raw and riveting look at fame, fallout, and the fine line between genius and self-destruction."
Definitely a talented but troubled and complicated man, whose story isn't your usual showbiz tale of rags to riches. Should you watch? Check out the trailer and decide.

I think he was excluded as he is allegedly a pain in the derrière to work with, that is fairly common knowledge I believe.

I'm probably one of the dozen viewers who tuned into his talk show on WGN back in 1992. He still has a great story to tell. Thanks for the heads up.

It is almost impossible to believe he's 82. Where did the time go?

Has there really been a public demand for a Chevy Chase documentary? I've never found him funny - and not just because he's a smug jerk (Ricky Gervais is hilarious) but because he's just not funny.

I haven't seen it yet, but I think that's exactly what the documentary address - how did a guy go from being a big rising star in the first years of SNL to becoming something of a pariah in show business? I've heard nothing but terrible things about him for years. And to my understanding, he knows it - and it's completely his fault.

SpinningWheel - I thought his short lived talk show was hysterical. He did a couple of bits that no other talk show would have attempted.

The first episode.

Interesting that this is CNN’s NYE offering, while putting Anderson Cooper et al on streaming exclusively.

I think there's a miscommunication here and it's probably my mis-phrasing. When I said in my post that this special was on New Year's night, I meant Jan. 1st, not Dec. 31st.
CNN is, in fact, showing a New Year's Eve special with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, as they have in previous years. They are doing something exclusive for their streaming service, as well, but according to my listings, the big countdown will air across the full cable network.
