It looked like a sure fire winner for the streaming service - take a holiday when everyone is off and not much else is on TV and show two NFL games exclusive to its subscribers. But unfortunately, Netflix couldn't have known when they made the deal way back when that it would result in teams playing that are all but out of contention.
"Whereas the 2024 Christmas Day matchups featured several AFC juggernauts — including the 10-5 Ravens and 14-1 Chiefs — only one team competing this year has a record above .500."
Despite that flaw, I still suspect the broadcasts will do well, considering how little real competition there is. And better yet, you don't have to subscribe to watch both games if you're on this side of the border - thanks to their deal with the NFL, CTV is showing both in Canada for free.
How much Netflix paid for NFL Christmas Day games as gamble doesn't pay off this time

While the first game will be a complete dud, game two is huge, at least for Detroit Lions fans, as the team tries to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. As for the Amazon Prime nightcap, while the defending AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs are eliminated from playoff contention this year, they would love to derail their division rival Denver Broncos chances of having the best record, chances of that happening are slim. Last week the Mahomeless team lost 26-9 to the hapless Tennessee Titans. I agree Viewership will be down from lsast year's games. However, the many people who are registered in fantasy football leagues will definitely be tuning in. And the numbers will still swamp any of the NBA offerings. You can take that to the bank.

I would think that there is a contingent that will take great delight in seeing Kansas get thumped again.

I think that would be a very safe bet.

"Ridiculous."
"Horrible."
"Awful."
Those are just some of the words being used to describe not the games, but Netflix's production techniques and coverage of the two Christmas Day NFL matches, that also aired on CTV.
What were the many complaints? The answers can be found in the Sports Illustrated story below.
I didn't watch, but I'm guessing many here did. Do you agree with the critics?

But apparently Netflix is not.
