Is This Really The End Of A Radio Commercial Tyranny?

I was a bit bleary-eared (if there is such a thing) Monday morning, but I think I heard a spot for Ronald McDonald House - and there wasn't a growl or a roar in it. For the first time in months, it appears that horrible ad where the guy imitates an animal as a little kid laughs is finally, finally off Toronto airwaves.

The commercial I heard early in the morning was a sedate, soft music-filled pitch to donate to the charity, and it was neither irritating nor made me reach for the dial.

We've done threads before on the most annoying spots on radio here (Spence Diamonds usually wins hands down) and this was definitely one of them. And it ran and ran and ran and ran forever, long after the others often cited had finished their campaigns. Hopefully, it won't be back.

Ronald McDonald House is a wonderful cause, but when its campaign sets your teeth on edge and forces you to turn the dial, it's defeating its own purpose. May the spot rest in peace, hopefully never to be heard again.

One is gone - another is back. I just heard my first "Ho Ho Holy Moley!" spot, Indigo's Christmas campaign featuring a very annoying Santa Claus. What a shame that thing is back after it ran almost every break during the holiday season last year.

But at least no one is growling!

If it is truly, finally, mercifully gone, it may qualify as a Christmas Miracle.  Praise be.

Yes, very happy that stupid growl growl ad has been replaced with a very low key easy to listen to ad for McDonald's children's hospitals.
Now we just have to get rid of the bloody Spence Diamonds scream, and the bipolar Food Basics announcer guy.

WOWZA!

But seriously, the scream will be with us until hell freezes over... the Spence folks know exactly what they're doing, and it works.

Getting rid of 'Fiona' was a small mercy.

Re: Is This Really The End Of A Radio Commercial Tyranny?

On weekends at the grocery store where I am employed, the butchers in the meat department listen to Classical 96.3. Last Sunday, after playing a relaxing piece of music in the commercial break the first spot was the WOWZA Food Basics ad. Talk about a nails on the blackboard experience. Quite jarring.

Just as I thought - this horribly annoying spot is playing in every single break on every single station I listen to. More Satan than Santa if you ask me.
