Re: 95.3 format change coming?

They are still on air.
They said were 20 minuts away from something big happening on energy 95.3.

Re: 95.3 format change coming?

Corus is confusing us.
I just heard a liner saying this morning at 8, 95.3 will flip the swich.
Are they getting ready for a contest, flipping to christmas, or actualy changing formats?
Maybe they are even keeping the same format, but changing to fresh radio, the beat, or jump.

Is their regular morning crew still on the air or is it just non-stop music? Usually a change in personnel (or their absence) is one of the first signs something is up.

The morning show is just pumped in from Guelph.

Re: 95.3 format change coming?

Interesting that all their online feeds (the "Listen Live" feature) are no longer working.

Usually they resort just to music if a big change is coming. The fact they're still on shows the changes aren't that huge.

Re: 95.3 format change coming?

Lots of hype for not much return. I'm not a listener, so to those who are - tell me, is this likely to want to make you stick around for the next month-plus? Great way to chase away your previous audience, no matter how big or small.

I’m using iHeartRadio to listen to the switch. So all day?

It’s a great way to temporarily inflate the audience.

That can be a big gamut.

Bob Seeger doing 'The Little Drummer Boy', and other rockers?

The Waitresses 'Christmas Wrapping'?

Dean Martin's 'It's a Marshmallow World in the Winter'? (Technically, not truly Christmas.)

Well, we probably have a good five and a half weeks (at least) to determine.

You can't listen over the radio or TV?

I wonder how may listeners are complaning to the station. This reminds me of the sudden switch to Xmas music on WDZH-FM 98.7 in Detroit back in 2018 and then they switched to Soft AC later that year. Fresh 103.1 and Magic 106.1 also switched to Xmas music as well.

Re: 95.3 format change coming?

CORUS also flipped the Christmas switch in London, Barrie, and Kingston.

Ugh why did they have to do this? Christmas music should only be on AC stations. Not on Hot AC.

London, Barrie, Kingston: right back to what they were doing.

"Hamilton" - a bit different since this is their first year doing this....given that they didn't blow up the branding, I'd guess the same.

Re: 95.3 format change coming?

So chase away your original audience and then expect them to come back when it's over? Who thinks that's going to happen?

They're not going to chase away much audience. You're uner-estimating the enormous popularity of this format with those stations' target demos.

Fresh 93.1 Barrie is still playing regular music. No Christmas music

I'll admit I'm not in the demo. But if I were, I would be turning the dial as fast as I could. Whether I'd come back when "regular programming" resumes is an open question.

Why is that? It's a music genre I can't stand taking over the radio station I was loyal to and effectively abandoning me for the next month or so. Why wouldn't I flee?

I've always been a huge fan of consistency - give listeners what they expect every time they turn on your station. I suspect this isn't what most tuned into Energy to hear. I know this works and has been a big success for stations like CHFI. To me - and I'm not your regular listener, I'll admit - it's an instant tune-out.

I can only tell you that's what I would do. If 640, which I do listen to often, were to alter their format for the next month and do, say, discussions on arts and crafts or gardening (ridiculous, I agree) I would be gone. Why would someone who likes their usual playlist or format and have it disappear suddenly not react in the same way?

There are so many other choices, including online and streaming, that I don't need Energy's lack of energy to stick with.

Re: 95.3 format change coming?

Are all the Corus Christmas stations playing the same songs at the same time? Only one origin of programming.

I don't mind the Christmas music per say just the very small playlist. With tens of thousands of Christmas recordings available they should include more variety.

The old CFCA and CKOT did Christmas music right.
