It's hard to imagine, but series creator Sherwood Schwartz wanted to do a movie in which one of the castaways was murdered and famous TV detectives came to the island to figure out whodunnit.
And don't even bother to imagine the other possible script - in which the castaways were starving and decided to eat each other.
The ‘Murder on Gilligan’s Island’ Storyline That Never Made It to TV

I never watched the show, "Riverdale" but didn't it paint a dark picture using the characters from "Archie?"
I heard the show included things like characters being murdered or having drug and alcohol addictions etc.
I read one review that said it was the worst thing ever to be shown on TV, yet it lasted multiple seasons.

I actually quite liked the spin they gave to "Riverdale," given the unrealistic wholesomeness of the comic. I didn't expect to enjoy it, but I did. It was actually better than you might expect.
They did some clever references to the original. For instance, the illegal drug of choice among Riverdale teens was called "Jingle Jangle."
"Jingle Jangle" was the follow-up to "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies on the pop charts. It didn't have the success of the big hit, but those who knew that and watched the show got the in-joke.
If you're curious, you can watch all 7 seasons of the show for free here.

TV Cops/Detectives who could solve the Gilligan's Island murder. Rockford, Columbo, Cannon, Kojak, McGarrett. Ironside would have trouble. Wheel chairs don't move well on sandy beaches.
