In answer to the question, "who was the first to go all Christmas music in 2025?", there's little doubt this FMer near Salt Lake City gets the nod. And we're not even into double digits in October yet.
But there's a method to KLO's madness. The station will be adopting a yet unnamed format after the holiday, and decided to go all Yule early as a publicity stunt.
It almost has to be first one in North America to go that route, since we haven't even hit Halloween yet.
"As recently as Monday night, KLO had been playing classic alternative music under the name “The Wave 103.1.” That format had been in place for seven years, [P.D. Rob] Riesen said, but it didn’t make a dent in ratings. “We gave it a shot,” he said.
Riesen said the company will be switching to a new format after Christmas, but he wouldn’t announce what it is yet. “It’s going to be exciting,” he said."
In the meantime, brace yourself. The rest, including many stations here, will follow soon enough.

If I started hearing Christmas music now, I would be sick if it well before December even started. I enjoy festive tunes but it is way too early, and I think it’s disrespectful to start this before Remembrance Day, call me weird!
My local Dollarama has an aisle with Halloween items on one side and Christmas stuff on the other, just waiting for them to squeeze in some Easter merchandise! Cha-Ching!

Most people have a choice as to when they want to listen to Christmas music. I feel bad for retail staff who have no way of escaping it. Fortunately, at the grocery store where I work, the festive tune channel doesn't get turned on until mid December. As a bonus, there is no speaker near the seafood department where I work.I am extremely thankful for that.

I agree but it's a US-based station mentioned in the OP and Nov 11 carries much less weight there than it does in Canada.
Also, is US radio known for telegraphing their format flips the way KLO is doing here? Format flips are "surprises" here historically .
