Former Global News Anchor Entering Politics

Leslie Roberts not only anchored Global News for a time, he also hosted a Bell Media radio show. But now the veteran broadcaster is looking for a different anchor seat - one on Montreal city council. He plans to run in an upcoming election in a local riding.

According to the linked article, Roberts, a Montreal native, has the advantage of having a well known name, which is a huge plus in local races "Roberts is considered by many to be a “star candidate.” He has been in the media for many years, hosting television news programming on CTV, Global, and Fox, and he spent some time as the mid-morning host on CJAD Radio."

I honestly have no memory of him ever being on Fox, but I'll take their word for it. Roberts is not without some baggage. He famously resigned from Global in 2015 after it was revealed he was part owner of a PR business that booked guests on the network's news shows, without telling the company, resulting in a massive conflict of interest.

Re: Former Global News Anchor Entering Politics

I saw this reaction to the news online:

"I guess he ran out of media jobs."

It is interesting that two prominent media people - Leslie Roberts and Evan Solomon - who lost their jobs due to conflicts of interest in profiting from their media connections for side hustles, have both ended up in politics.

Maybe they mixed him up with John Roberts.

Although, Evan Solomon worked for CTV/Bell Media for a number of years after leaving the CBC for a somewhat questionable conflict of interest, so politics was a ways down the road for him.

The story in the Montreal Gazette says Roberts was at Fox for a 3 year period in the late 90's

Gazette article also says he is 63

The source in the opening post claims he's 61

So who knows?

Re: Former Global News Anchor Entering Politics

Wikipedia, which you have to take with a grain of salt, indicates he worked for WNYW-TV, the Fox owned local affiliate in New York City for several years. So the term "working for Fox" makes you think of Fox News and not reporting for a local station, which is why it may be a bit misleading.

I believe he was with Fox-5 in NYC for 3 or 4 years in the early 90's.  But I'm old .  He definately was there for a while though.

Re: Former Global News Anchor Entering Politics

He was dismissed from a CFRB mid-day gig for doing the most slack and unimaginative thing a talk show host can do - twice. Read the Dear Abby column from the morning paper and open up the phones.
