Mr. Hughes dwelled too much on cable news and not the real problem which is the internet.  And when it came to criticizing cable news he only showed clips from CNN and MSNBC.  Fox News Network is the biggest offender of misinformation.  And they have the lawsuits to prove it. 

This is largely an American problem so far and I hope that Canadian media and Canadians are smart enough not to fall into something similar.  CBC, CTV, Global, City, Radio Canada, TVA are not normally consistent propoganda horns like some news media to the south.  But some Canadian print media from the right and left have been trying to amp up the divisions for some time now.  Thanks goodness so far the public largely has been ignoring them. 

The governor of Utah I think has been very good with his measured comments over the past few days.  Spencer Cox spoke as a leader today and laid it out that the US will either learn from this and come together or the divide will continue to get worse and incidents like this will continue. He really took issue with the internet and called it a cancer.

Apparently he thought that would make him attractive to the millions of Taylor Swift fans.
Donald Trump intends to immortalize Kirk by awarding him the presidential medal of freedom.
Kirk is going to be just a tiny blip in the history of the US.

Ridiculously repetitive, which on its own is considered a propagandistic tool ... repeat something often enough and people eventually believe it. Motherhood statements, lack of data to back his points. At this juncture, pending further background about the alleged shooter, it's difficult to blame leftists. So the tool of choice for the moment is to sing kumbaya. We should all just get along. Uh, yeah, right. Of course I agree in principle - how could I not? But the last few years have been ugly and it's going to get worse.

Why is it that I express my opinion on another post about this matter and it gets taken closed, but this nonsense is allowed to live and breathe? This Muffaraw Joe character is spreading propaganda tactic #1: make people lose faith in media, facts and journalism. It's elementary level crazy. 

Actually, I have unavoidably been offline all day. While I appreciate Muffaraw Joe's feelings on this, he's also well aware that I have been trying desperately to keep this kind of stuff off this board. It is polluting the feelings of many and dividing the rest. Mr. Kirk was never on my radar and I've only heard of him because he was killed. No one deserves death for expressing their opinion, misguided or not. 

I don't see what this has to do with radio and TV in Southern Ontario and Western New York. Why do we need to keep polarizing ourselves with this?

But SOWNY should not be one of them. Just like I wouldn't expect to see, say, recipes posted on this site. Or information about the latest fashions. That's not why this place exists.  

I'm an extreme believer in free speech, but when it starts costing me valued members, I have to call a halt to this. Please, please stop this! It does not belong here. 

If it continues, I will be forced to do something that's anathema to me - delete these topics. And if that doesn't work, delete the offending users. I desperately do not want it to come to that.
