That's my point.... they have access to public funds as well as advertising revenue, they should be producing newscasts in unprofitable markets

It's the annual, endless "NFL interruptus," where the simulcast of the Sunday football game takes over and keeps it from airing OTA. The newscast will still be available on CP24 and on the radio, but it's hardly the same. (The CP24 "enriched screen" is a pain, at least to me.) 

I know most people won't care but those who want to see the newscast can watch CP24 online here. (You might need to turn off your VPN to get it to work.) 

It also means all programs that follow on CBS and CTV will be delayed, so if you're planning to record anything in the future, you should leave a lot of extra time. Although for the first week, at least, CTV becomes the de facto NFL network, picking up games from both CBS and NBC. It means this week, they have nothing but football scheduled from 1 PM to 11 PM. That's 10 hours straight, and that's only if they all end on time. 

(Speaking of which, I'll be very curious to see how CBS handles the inevitable run-over this week. They've scheduled a major live event, the MTV Music Video Awards, for 8 PM. Will they delay the event at the source, join it in progress or simply time delay the thing and show it from the beginning whenever the game ends? My guess is the latter, since you can't ask all those music stars and celebrities to sit there and wait for something else to finish.)

Either way, as an NFL-hater, it's going to be a very loooooong season.

Actually, CBS's primary telecast [Detroit/Green Bay] ended on time. However, the network then went to "Bonus Coverage" of the Houston/LA Rams game which was only seen in Southern California and Texas, except Dallas.
