Sandie Rinaldo mentioned that the CTV National News early edition will be live tomorrow from the opening of The Toronto International Film Festival. This is the 50th anniversary of the festival and the opening night kick off film will be a bio on John Candy entitled I Like Me which was produced by Ryan Reynolds. Sandie will be interviewing Candy's two children Jennifer and Christopher along with Reynolds.
Global News Carolyn Jarvis is moving to CTV News Channel as an afternoon anchor. She will also be hosting a new weekday program at 6pm ET.

Will it be in-depth report of the film? Or a vapid pigshit red-carpet celebrity bit?

Carolyn is impressive. She deserves higher exposure.

She's a great investigative reporter and it is a shame that 16x9 got cancelled, she would made a great addition to CTV's W5 team (what's left of it)

Christopher Candy, who was involved in making the film about his dad, wrote a wonderful article about it for the Star.
John Candy was my dad. Here’s what I learned from ‘I Like Me,’ his TIFF-opening documentary

I didn't watch it, but I am still interested. Did she cover the film itself or only people walking the carpet?

CTV Toronto had Michelle Dube on the red carpet for the 6, but I didn't see it. They spent the first 10 minutes or so of the show rambling on and on about TIFF, which is fine if you care. I don't. I tune in the news to see, oh I don't know - the news! (To be fair, it was a worthy lead and a big deal for this city, but not for 10 minutes.)
I turned to the other stations in town to see what they were doing. Only Global led with TIFF and it didn't go on forever like CFTO did. I guess if you're interested in it, that's fine. I find these festival things incredibly dull and self-serving as, in the words of the late Phil Ochs, "the egos shine like lightbulbs, so bright you cannot see them."
Just give me the headlines, then get to the fluff. But I know I'm in the minority on this stuff.

I have this ridiculous joke I use every time during this part of the year that either no one thinks is funny or they don’t get it at all – or both!
It’s this:
I can't figure out why so many people are interested in buying tickets for TIFF.
Who wants to see the governor of the Bank of Canada?
When you have to explain that the head of the BOC is Tiff Macklem, it kills the humour – if there’s any there to begin with!
But hey, how many Tiff Macklem jokes do you know?

I agree. Since this is the 50th anniversary of TIFF a lead story is warranted, but just give us the Coles notes version. For those wanting indepth analysis, E-Talk would be the appropriate program for that.

No I didn't get your joke and yes explaining it does kill the humour.

The documentary on John Candy's life last night was amazing. I was friends with and worked with John on various projects over 17 years, and he was my boss in LA for a couple of those, but even I found out things I didn't know about him. And when the Prime Minister of Canada comes out and praises John Candy, you know it was a surreal moment. Super congrats to Rose Candy and to Jen and Chris, who both worked diligently on this for close to two years. It was so great to spent time wth them again. Director Colin Hanks did a magnificent job encapsulating John's life that most fans never knew about. Lots of laughs and more than a few teary moments. Producer Ryan Reynolds was hilarious (as always). AT the Q&A after the doc, he even repeated Steve Martin and Edie McClurg's car rental scene from "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" verbatim (including ALL of the 'F' words. A fabulous night and a wonderful celebration of John Candy.

I saw a clip yesterday of PM Mark Carney talking about John Candy in his SCTV era. Carney talked about Johnny LaRue, Melonville mayor Tommy Shanks and a few others. Hoping he would have mentioned William B. Williams and maybe even attempt the classic William B. laugh.

At noon today Sean Leathong had a good report on the movie's Producer Ryan Reynold's custom 'John Candy' corduroy jacket and the lady from Port Carling who created it with his collaboration. It's not online yet.

Here's the trailer for the John Candy doc in case you haven't already seen it. The trailer, I mean. It's one heck of a trailer and the actual documentary promises to be brilliant.
Someone with a bit of imagination in programming with one of the specialty channels should darn well put together a smorgasbord of John Candy movies for the Thanksgiving holiday long weekend in mid-October. 🤞🍗

I saw that interview, terrific and very heartwarming to see the woman and her business getting more exposure during TIFF. I hope she gets a ton of business from having a big star showcase her skills and clothing refits.
