What's The Story Morning Tory

Just a quick reminder that, as already mentioned by RA, the once and future? mayor John Tory will be sitting in for John Moore on Monday for Newstalk's MITM show.

As the man himself has been known to say, govern yourselves accordingly.

p.s. Holy moly, we're about a week away from the Labour Day long weekend, can't wait to hear what Boom FM radio has going on for listeners.

Is it me or did this summer seem to zip by? Seems like yesterday I was putting the snow shovels away…..

Good bye [and good riddance] humidex. Hello NFL, MLB playoffs and very soon NHL.

Yes, indeed good riddance to the humidex!

I’d rather deal with sweat, not snow! And I don’t get my hopes up when it comes to the NHL, being a Leafs  fan…..! At least there’s some hope for the Jays, if they keep it up, last night was too close though after being up 4-0!

I may be the only one not looking forward to this. The CFL is already constantly delaying CTV's 6 PM weekend news every Saturday, although I'm aware it's on CP24. Why do they insist on starting these games at 3 PM? They never, ever, ever end on time.

Which brings me to the dreaded return of the NFL on CBS, which every single week without fail runs overtime and delays their primetime line-up on Sundays, leading to shows starting at 9:43 PM or other strange times. This goes on for months and months, and I honestly have never seen a single broadcast end on time, which plays havoc if you're DVR-ing a show you want to see.

The same with golf, which has no clock, but has interrupted NBC Nightly News for much of the summer. On Saturday night, it wasn't even on, with coverage running until 7 PM.

I'm glad you guys like your sports and so do the networks, because they bring in huge ratings and lots of sponsor money. But I consider this the start of TV schedule hell. And as a non-football fan, I'm dreading this return.

If I'm DVRing programs I think will be delayed, I usually use the Seattle stations.

RA is an OTA guy. Seattle is not an option for him.

Re: What's The Story Morning Tory

This handy guide should be helpful for you RA. The following Sunday dates 60 Minutes will start at 7pm because CBS does not have a double header scheduled on those dates.  Sept 14, 21. Oct 5, 19. Nov 9, 23. Dec 7, 28. The regular season ends Sunday Jan 4. However, both FOX and CBS have 4:25 games that day.

Thanks Mace. But it's been my unfortunate experience that these games never, ever, ever, ever end on time. Not once. Football is the only game where the two minute warning takes 40 minutes or more to complete.

And you're right - I'm OTA for reasons that totally involve not wanting to give Rogers or Bell a dime of my money. But at least I can see whatever gets cut off by overtime online, so that helps considerably! The real key is remembering to add extra time to the recording every week.

You are correct that NFL games almost never end on time particularly if it is a close contest where OT [a conversation for another day] is a distinct possibility. I can almost guarantee that CBS will assign WIVB a 1pm game on those dates. Caveat: Local stations can request another game but CBS is not required to grant it.
