I found his description of the process of how he turns out his episodes interesting. You may, too.
What Goes Into the Toronto Mike'd Podcast

I like his “live to tape” approach, keeps the energy level up, less work in the long run, plus you can usually edit any parts that need it after the session. Thanks for posting RA!

Judging from some of the podcasts relating to the NFL, it's obvious that access to microphones and video cameras is far too easily obtained. 🤨

From Vistek:
GoPro Action stand and swivel mount  = $310
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 = $300
2 x Shure SM58s = $280
2 x Tabletop Mic Stands = $90
Cables ~ $60
Then:
OBS = Free
DaVinci Resolve = Free
Laptop with video card $700 plus
Neutral Background
Maybe a bit of acoustic treatment

Very polished and professional. His guests always seem relaxed and at ease during the interview.

Very kind. Thank you.
If someone I should speak with is missing from this list, even if it's you, please let me know at mike@torontomike.com.

Have you considered Paul & Carol Mott? I know they're not in broadcasting anymore - but they were one of my favs back in the day!

Not enough oats, apples and saddles currently in the TM basement to attract them!
Horsing around aside, I agree they would be interesting guests, even if done over Zoom. A long career arc from CKTB to 1010 (including a weekend stint, "phoning it in", literally).

I did reach out to Carol Mott about this and sadly, The Motts are indeed too busy to make their Toronto Mike'd debut.

Jack's stuck in Miami and will make his Toronto Mike'd debut next week instead of this week.
I'm still very interested to hear from people who would like to be on Toronto Mike'd: mike@torontomike.com

I don't know if you have interviewed Doug Thompson. His behind the scenes knowledge of the inner workings of CHUM would be quite interesting. Bill Brioux A+ TV Critic?

This Doug Thompson episode of Toronto Mike'd on the history of 1050 as a Top 40 station is pretty amazing.
Bill Brioux has visited a few times, but this was his debut.
During one of Bill's visits we played and discussed his 10 favourite TV themes of all-time. That was great fun.

I owe Toronto Mike an email - we corresponded a couple of years ago and I need to catch up and figure out when I'll next be in Toronto with time to stop by for a chat!

I recorded this episode with Jack earlier this afternoon.

In response to Mr. Berkovits' comments about SOWNY and yours truly off the top of your podcast:
Yes, I'm well aware of Jack's former presence on the board. I always found him pretty arrogant and it's a bit hypocritical of him to talk about this place being populated by people who've lost their radio jobs - when he's lost all of his gigs!
As for his contention that I judge him for not being a radio guy, that's not true. I just don't find his shows all that compelling a lot of the time, and I think he's simply shilling for his jewelry business in the guise of a talk show. As proof, I would note that his advertising immediately disappears from a station he was on the instant one of his
shows is cancelled.
And yes, Mike I do know about podcasts. I just prefer live radio to pre-taped content, but to be fair, I often do listen to your stuff (and frequently promote it here, as you know) and others, so saying I'm not a podcast fan isn't exactly true. I just find it easier to listen to live radio when I'm out - nothing to download or stream and it's up-to-the-minute with whatever is going on.
But thanks for the mention off the top! No publicity is bad publicity!
Oh, and about my OTA use - it's my personal protest against the business practices of both Rogers and Bell, the de facto only cable providers in this province. I would be a hypocrite of the worst kind if I railed against them and then paid for their services. Hence, my rotating antenna, which brings me lots of programming and lots of joy! Without ever having to pay either of them a single cent. Helps me sleep at night! (Which is why my cell phone provider is Telus.)
And hi, Jack! Please feel free to keep checking in. We value all our members. And yes, I know what name you used to post under (funny how you critique me for using a phony name, when you did the exact same thing!) Still, you're welcome to continue to put up any replies or posts if you wish.
Despite what you think, I hope you find another gig to scratch your radio itch. There's nothing quite like being on air.

RA...your using the RadioActive name isn't 'phony', it's simply your nom de blog.

I'm not the only one who chose anonymity because of possible repercussions from work. I felt it could let me express my differences with the station(s) I was at, without causing trouble. I suppose I can reveal now that the late Mark Dailey used a pseudonym on various SOWNY boards (although for the life of me I can't quite recall what it was at the moment.)
So did John Donabie, who sometimes logged in under his own name, but other times was here as "AMFM."
Whatever their monikers, I knew them both and miss them both to this day.

Was anybody else surprised by the pronunciation of "SOWNY" by both Messrs. Boon and Berkovits?
I've always pronounced it as "SONY", same as the Japanese tech company, treating the "W" as silent. I heard both Mike and Jack emphasize the "W", making it sound like "SOW (female pig) - Knee".
I suppose I've never heard it said aloud, but I've always read it as SOW-KNEE. I think I emphasize the W so it's not confused with Sony.

I've heard it both ways and I've never been sure which one is right. But maybe the ultimate arbiter would be Dale Patterson, who started this thing and named it a long time ago.

I usually just call it SONY - like the company - but SOW-KNEE sounds more accurate. Just don't call me late for dinner.
BTW, radio hobbyist extraordinaire Charlie Ritenburg would be a great guest. I asked him about it a while back and he said he'd be interested.
