What Is CTV's Jessica Smith's Obsession With The Downtown Core?

I know I seem overly critical about CTV Toronto's weather - and sometimes lack of it, having gone at least 3 days with anchor-only weather - but at least they had Jessica Smith in with a proper forecast Wednesday, featuring actual maps and radar.

Yes, she tends to talk too fast, but at least the entire package is there and she knows which maps are coming up and what they mean. My one big complaint (beyond her constant use of the phrase, "As we step into" followed by a day, week or month reference) is her endless updates on storms hitting the "downtown core."

She mentioned that area of the city at least four times in less than five minutes on the noon show Wednesday, noting the chance of showers probably would not reach "the downtown core." Yes, that part of the city is very busy, and I hate to break it to her, but a ton more people live outside "the downtown core" than do in it.

I'm in northern North York. Are we getting rain? I can't tell because the only thing she ever refers to is downtown. It drives me crazy, because it feels like she's ignoring 80% or more of the city's population.

One way or other, this endless concentration on one part of Toronto is rotten to the "core."

I use the Clime weather app. If rain [green, yellow or orange] or snow [light blue, dark blue] is approaching you can actually zoom in on your street to see how close the system is to your neighbourhood.

How ironic that there's such a heavy focus on downtown Toronto when they actually broadcast from Scarborough and they should know better...

Does the Clime app use the NOAA in the US? If so, there may not be much information soon if the NOAA is defunded.

They do and the heat/tornado/severe thunderstorm watches and warnings are still displayed in great detail.
