So AM 740 and FM 96.7 pick up the exact same PPM tone? Or is there separate data suggesting how many are listening to FM and how many are listening to AM? (combined in ratings as a 0.2 share)

I don't know if they have two tones to see the breakdown internally, but what's posted here is the combination of the AM and FM

How long can NewsTalk 1010 continue with such dismal numbers? Considering what the station once was, oh how the mighty have fallen. And to see the once great CHUM right below them with close to no audience would simply have been unthinkable just a few decades ago.

If Wally Crouter, Jack Dawson, Gordon Sinclair, Eddie Luther and Bill Deegan et al could see how the mighty 1010 has fallen, they'd be spinning in their graves. Their current format is hackneyed, stale, routine and does not envisage the possibility of increasing their audience. Perhaps the "talk" format has run its course or perhaps a complete CFRB staff change is necessary. It's difficult tp sound professional when some learn on the job. Or perhaps AM radio has run its course. It is really embarrassing to see the current 1010 ratings of a radio station that, at one time, had absolutely no competition. Just proves that Bell should stick to telephones and leaving the industry to the professionals.

No doubt the GTA likes pop/top 40/classic and a dash of alternative music. Great ratings for KISS 92.5 and Indie 88. Nice to see AM 640 clearly ahead of 1010. However 680 News steals the oxygen from both of them. 1010 needs to be less negative have more fun and cut down on all of the opinion hosts. laffin is correct, time for a change of staff on CFRB.

Tell that to 680 NewsRadio

If the Numeris PPM sample size is still 600, as it was a few years ago, you have to question the statistical significance of the low single digit shares. A 0.2% share means an average of 1.2 people meters for the total hours tuned. The GTA universe is some 5 million people, so it would be nice if Numeris would justify that its numbers are actually meaningful. In other words, what is the statistical confidence level and the standard deviation associated with it?

Not to defend 1010 but 640 is guilty of this too. Talk radio in this market nowadays is not exciting at all. Personalities have been replaced with hosts.

Consultant David Bray wrote this in his analysis of the latest Numeris numbers. (And if you're interested in markets like Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal, they're here.)
"Significant methodology changes are on the horizon. Numeris is looking at replacing diaries with a different approach. They are currently exploring and analyzing two alternatives using a Proof of Concept process.
"That would leave us with three different approaches, one each for Numeris diary markets, the smaller radioCount markets and the larger PPM markets. Not to mention all of the formerly diary markets that were dropped by Numeris and left without measurement. All of this will undoubtedly result in very significant changes in the way radio is bought and sold."
As if it wasn't already hard enough to find accurate numbers...

^Way overdue. Numeris wasn't even considering counting streaming numbers at one point in time.

Do you think CFRB would have been more competitive had Bell not made all those drastic cuts? With a competent news department, they could at least attempt to retain the title of "Ontario's Authoratative News Voice" U.S. stations like WBZ, KDKA, KFI, KMOX still rank in the top 10 in their respective markets. Yes I realize both KDKA and KMOX both have FM simulcasts and WBZ is available on an HD2 in the market, but KFI is still a stand alone AM. We will never know because the damage Bell has done to this legendary Toronto station is beyond repair now.

I am surprised CBC Radio 1 is in 10th spot, and Indie 88 in 5th.

Hi all, Instead of overall station ratings, I would enjoy seeing hourly breaks especially comparing 1010 and 640 as well as 1050 and 590. Is that available anywhere? Thank you!

I think laffin makes a good point here. Telecoms should have stuck to what they know. They have basically gutted every newsroom, both radio and TV in this market. However, I do wonder how many broadcasters would be gone by now had they not been bought up. Damned if you do…..
