While an indoor antenna can certainly get those who only have cable local TV stations, I'm less convinced that any of them can pull in reliable stations from across the border. But that's the claim Rolling Stone is making in what is an ad-like article about something called the Vansky Digital Antenna.
The secret sauce in this small flat panel signal grabber is that it comes with an amplifier, and it claims that helps it pull in channels from as far away as 250 miles. If that's true, it might be a good addition for those who would like to be able to pull in all those digital subcarriers they've heard about but can't see.
And here's the bonus - the Vansky is on sale at Amazon for only 20 bucks U.S. Even with the exchange rate (and a quick check on the site shows it's selling for $80 here), that's a bargain.
You can read about this thing in the advertorial below, but until I got my hands on one and actually tested it out, I'd remain skeptical. But if it works as the say, that would be amazing.
Pay $20, Then Get Broadcast TV for Life With This Digital Antenna
By the way, there's also a flat panel antenna on Amazon that makes the unbelievable claim it can pull in digital stations from 1,100 miles away thanks to "advance signal filtering," whatever that means. No matter what electronics are installed inside this thing, I find that impossible to believe. Still, if you want to take the chance, the price is right. It's just $41 Cdn.

In Buffalo area... possibly.
Here in the GTHA...doubtful....

The problem with any of these devices is that they have a broad-band amplifier. If you live in TO, it will be hit with all that RF energy from the CN Tower and FCP - yes First Canadian Place. All those FM transmitters add to the total RF the device has to cope with. So will it pick up Buffalo? Sure, if the CNT and FCP + others were off air

Because of the curvature of the earth it is physically impossible to receive reliable OTA reception from 250 miles away. Tropo conditions make it possible occasionally. A good quality outdoor antenna, depending on buildings and topography is probably good for 80-90 miles. Indoor? Not so much.

Quite enjoy how the images of that one imply that it can pick up cable channels like CNN, etc.

send me $19.99 and I'll send you a "digital" 4K ready, old fashioned coat hanger. I'll even throw in a bottle of holy water....
