Every Day But One: Why Does CFRB Do This?

I was taking the dog out for a late walk Saturday night and decided I might listen to The CTV National Newscast at 11 PM over CFRB.

Except it wasn't on.

Instead, I was greeted by "The Best of John Moore."

From Sunday-Friday night, NT1010 airs both the CTV News and CFTO's local newscast at 11:30. Why is Saturday night different from all the others? It's obviously not a rights issue - they can take whatever CTV programming they want and regularly do. It's very inconsistent and makes no sense.

Any idea why the difference? Not that it's an important daypart, but I'd be very curious to know why that one night has something else on in that timeslot.

No, CTV has both shows seven nights a week. CFRB simulcasts them all - except on Saturday.

Lame guess: the simulcast isn’t set up to run in automation, and they otherwise don’t need an operator  on that shift so they don’t bother.

But on Sunday night at 11, they do? That seems hard to believe.

Deb Hutton best-of runs Saturday night at 9 PM, followed by The Social podcast at 10. Both are pre-recorded and I'm betting they're 100% automated. Then follows John Moore's best of at 11.

Sunday has the pre-recorded Munk Debate at 9, followed by another "on tape" show, "The CEO Series" at 10, and then the CTV National News at 11. Seems safe to say there are no ops at that hour on that day, either.

It's weird how Saturday is the only day they skip the national and local news for a rerun.

Re: Every Day But One: Why Does CFRB Do This?

Since Roy Green left weekend radio in Toronto now seems to be total rerolls from the weekdays on 1010 and 640.
Plus I'm getting tired of Ben Mulroney using his show to praise his late father.
Yeah he was a prime minister and I'm sorry for Ben that he died, but this is now just bordering on abusing his position.
Brian Mulroney may have done some decent things as PM but he also screwed up pretty badly -- like allegedly accepting a briber from a crooked arms dealer.
Remember when the Air Farce used to regularly refer to him as "a big tool.'  There was a reason for that.

I’ll stretch my guess even further: they have someone working the Sunday/Monday overnight, primarily to prep the audio clips for the morning show.

Well, given that free trade with the US is Mulroney's major legacy and it now appears to have put us in an especially vulnerable position and in need of building trading alternatives I'd say Mulroney Jr feels a need to double down in his daddy defence.

My guess... I know that CFAX airs it live on Sunday night, so perhaps their operator is also controlling CFRB?
