I won't compare this to the iconic 70's series but the game tonight promises to be as exciting and nerve-wracking as any gold medal matchup.
The political aspect is also playing a role with Canadians and Americans passionately invested in the outcome.
O Canada. Go Canada!
Will you be watching?

That was only because ABC aired the game, and so Rogers used CityTV to claim the simsub viewers.

Okay fine, but why not do that for tonight's game?
I still don't get why Rogers wouldn't put their own Sportsnet feed on their own channel and promote their own brand.
Because ABC is not airing tonight's game.

Rogers owns Sportsnet and CityTV. Sportsnet is airing the game. I'm asking why Rogers wouldn't put the feed on CityTV. Rogers has aired all the games on Sportsnet thus far using thier own crew, in fact I believe they've sponsored the damned thing.
I don't "get" why ABC even enters the equation.
You're not understanding the fundamental strategy of sports on television. ABC enters the equation because they aired Saturday's game which Canadians can watch in Canada. Sportsnet airs their own feed which the vast majority of the audience watches. By simulcasting the ABC feed on CityTV, Rogers was able to simsub the ABC broadcast, therefore capturing virtually all of the potential reach. If ABC did not air Saturday's game, I can assure you CityTV would've never shown it.
ABC is not airing tonight's final, only their cable network ESPN is, therefore Rogers seeks to benefit nothing financially from putting the game on CityTV for a few reasons:
1) Why put the game on a free OTA platform when you can keep the game on a subscription platform which generates more money and incentives people to subscribe.
2) The vast majority of people watching will expect and watch game on Sportsnet anyways.
3) Airing the game on CityTV would mean preempting their usual primetime lineup, annoying viewers of those shows, and losing simsub revenue.
4) There is precedent: 99% of the last 17 years of CFL coverage, all Blue Jays games, many NHL games, nearly all Raptors games including their championship run, have all been on Sportsnet or TSN without a domestic OTA option.

And there's one other reason, at least with the match on Thursday. City TV is set to premiere the second season of Law & Order: Toronto, which is exclusive to the station and has been heavily hyped for a Feb. 20th debut. It starts at 10 PM and I doubt the game will be over by then.

That game played out exactly the same way as the 2010 gold medal game.

This all makes perfect sense to me.

Did anyone notice this?
Singer of Canadian anthem at 4 Nations Face-Off changes lyric to protest Trump’s 51st state remarks
What the hell was that? Chantel Kreviazuk completely butchered our anthem. I am not fond of singers taking the liberty of changing the lyrics, but her performance was brutal, it seemed as if she wasn’t familiar with the anthem. My son asked me who she was, I told him, and he then asked me if she was once good, very telling.

The "Gooooooooal!" call you didn't hear from ESPN Desportes, the Spanish language version. (If it sounds like soccer, that's not a coincidence.)
Hear it here.

Reminds me of Nelly Furtado at the NBA All-Star game in Toronto, back in 2016, even the American players were scratching their heads!
Here is the story if you recall

Last night's anthem was so bad, Team Canada was booing it.
It was so bad, that it made God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols sound like an Opera.
It was so bad, Roseanne Barr got signed to singing/rapping contract.
It was so bad even Kanye, didn't like it...

Canada vs. USA rematch second most-watched hockey game ever on Sportsnet
It's in the article.
I agree Chantal wasn't a good choice to sing the anthem. Didn't know she had won a Grammy Award.

"Wayne Gretzky's family says he's heartbroken people question his love for Canada." Source: blogTO and the link to the article is below.
Disingenuous much... Janet took quite a gamble expecting people to buy this ;) while Bobby Orr MAGAnanimously supported the not so Great One about the backlash over his actions during the final.
John Moore has mentioned several times during his show Wayne is not a very nice person at. all. I'll take his word for it.
