Fascinating WMCA video from 1967
Featuring Joe O'Brien, Harry Harrison, Jack Spector, Dan Daniel, Gary Stevens plus WMCA program director Ruth Meyer (all now deceased with the death of Stevens on Monday at 84).
The highlight for me is a jock meeting reviewing new music releases (with all the jocks in jackets and ties). Remember when management actually asked the jocks what they liked?

Wow, that was incredible to see. We could never get WMCA in Toronto, but during frequent trips to NYC as a kid to visit my older sister, I vastly preferred it to WABC. Some of the guys were legendary and Dandy Dan Daniel was a particular favourite of mine. Amazing to see them in their prime. (Also one of my favourite T-shirts!)
MCA eventually gave up trying to compete with ABC and went all talk. Today, it's a religious station.

I've only heard WMCA on airchecks (plus the B. Mitchel Reed re-creation on Cruisin' 1963). I too prefer it to WABC.

The only name I recognize is Harry Harrison who eventually went to WABC to do Morning Drive.

He was also at WCBS-FM for many years after his time at WABC ended. I believe he's the only jock to work at WMCA, WABC and WCBS-FM.

Nice chart from WMCA and too bad that a portion is missing Great to know that Ice in The Sun by Status Quo got airplay in the big apple. Two tracks that I have never heard of but found on You Tube. land of Love by the Moon People and Birmingham by the Movers. Wonder if the track and group name were inspired by the Move who were from Birmingham, England. The writing credits on the track read T Row and F Wellar ,I guess Tommy Roe and Freddy Wellar, one time member of Paul Revere and The Raiders

Interesting video. It is noteworthy how the on air people seemed to be quite pleased with themselves and the "important" jobs they had. The jocks at WMCA had big ratings, almost as big as their egos.
Fitz, great songs. Loved the horns and arrangements. Birmingham could have been a hit.

And in keeping with the SOWNY handle, WMCA Good Guy Gary Stevens was born in Buffalo.
