640 Over Doing It

Can someone let me know when 640 Toronto is talking about something other than tariffs. This coverage is completely overblown

No It's Not AT ALL.  This will be one of the biggest crises in our lifetime.  But I won't get into politics.

Re: 640 Over Doing It

Can't disagree. Outside of the Ontario election, there really is nothing else as important going on Monday morning. And it will just increase as we head towards Tuesday, when the tariffs actually kick in.

I can tell you the noon, 6 & 11 PM TV newscasts will be filled with this for a good 5-10 minutes off the top. In addition to the story itself, there are all the sidebars, including consumer reaction, pulling American alcohol off the shelves, the effects on the vital auto industry, the cross border towns, etc. etc. etc.

You may get sick of hearing about it, but it's all they're talking about on 640 and 1010. And I'm sure it's going to be featured a lot on CBC Radio 1, as well. I would be very surprised and somewhat disappointed if they did anything else.

This sentence epitomizes how I felt following the events of September 11th, almost a quarter-century ago.  I had CNN on at home and 680 in the car.  All day.  I didn't wan't to hear about anything else.  I'm not saying that this is healthy, but it shows how high on the meter this story rates (because I feel similarly now).  In fact I remember the first non-September 11th story that I heard on 680, and that was in mid-October, regarding the upcoming Windows XP.  And I recall "Blurry" by Puddle of Mudd was the first song I heard on an FM music station on Edge 103.3 in Buffalo.  Between that time, all I cared about was September 11th related news.

I hope I don't fall into that pit again, but it feels eerily similar.

Re: 640 Over Doing It

sports radio can be a welcome break from the intense trade war coverage, a couple of hours of smart, interesting conversation about hockey can go a long way to recalibrate the anxiety levels

The radio neads to have more reporting on this issue.

I would be disappointed if they weren’t discussing a national crisis when it is news, that’s their job, they report and talk about news and 25% tariffs on Canada is news, bigly!

Re: 640 Over Doing It

We will be seeing and hearing a lot about tariffs for the next 30 days at least.  Also everytime Mr. Trump talks about us being a 51st state will whip the news media into a lather.  Like it or not, Trump will be the focus for a minimum next two years.  And not just here but around the world.  He has already said a few times that tariffs are coming for the EU.  That's why BBC and others have been watching the situation with Canada and Mexico so closely.

Trump is literally the antithesis, in every way, of our “Peace, order and good government” Canada.

If that's the case, then the media can go fuck themselves. We do NOT need all Trump all the time. This is why I am no longer paying attention to the news, because it's the same person day in and day out, the media parroting every goddamn word he says and talking about every goddamn thing he does.

If you work in the news media, you disgust me. I hope you lose your job and that your MSM outlet spectacularly fails. You people are disgusting pigs, an absolute cancer of society and a bunch of heartless, soulless LIARS who are only in it for the money and eyeballs and ears. If you can't find anything more important to report on than the FUCKING American president, then that's your goddamn fault.
