I have to confess after reading this story twice, I'm still not entirely sure I fully understand it. It sounds like a low power Boston TV station is the first in the world to apply for a "5G" broadcast licence, in order for it to be receivable on the new generation of cell phones.
With everything else already available through streaming, I'm not sure whether this is a big deal or not.
In any event, I would invite those with more experience in this area to read this and tell me what they think it means.

Don't let the 5G conspiracy theory people see this or they'll have a field day with it and then some!
We have one of those here in town who insists that the fixed-wireless point-to-point antenna on the roof of the ServiceOntario office is a 5G mind control thingy. I'm surprised he hasn't come up with conspiracy theories about the 950 MHz STL antenna at the radio station next door!
But back to the original topic... wasn't there once a such thing as ATSC M/H or something like that?

100 years ago there were people who feared radio waves travelling through their bodies.

When I moved into my current house more than 30 years ago and had my 10' satellite dish installed in the backyard, my neighbour at the time motioned to me across the fence and seriously wanted to know, "Will I get radiation from that?"

If this 5G tv thing works out, wouldn't it be nice to receive Buffalo's ch 56 and 67 on our phones?

I think I'll wait for 6G... it will be 100x faster than 5G...

What answer did you give him?
I would have said something like this...
"Well, only if I turn it on to Ku mode... But wait till you try the steaks from this thing... its the increased blood cholesterol that is the real killer "
That would have kept your inquisitive neighbour thinking...

I was brand new in the neighbourhood and didn't want to make waves. So I just reassured him nothing would happen. I then touched his front door and turned on all the lights in his house...
