Buffalo Radio Discussions says that K-Love is off the air a lot. The Buffalo station at 102.5 doesn't do any local production, but the satellite feed from Nashville goes down more than it should. Also I had no idea that Buffalo and area has 8 religious oriented radio stations, and some of these have repeaters. The Queen City is ready for the judgement day!

Out of curiousity, I just had a look at Lyngsat and see their satellite backhaul is delivered on Ku Band. This band is prone to rainfade, both the uplink and downlink (as Bell/Shaw dish owners will attest). As we are in storm season, this could be why. EMF would be wise to have an Internet backhaul delivery as a backup, IMHO.

Solar flares have been doing a number on XDS for the last month. Skyview - the guys who distribute CBS and ABC, have been using an internet backup because of it. But there's still been dead air at the top of the hour.

Off the air @ 102.5, but the station is still up and running online:

I wonder how many people actually notice or care, aside from people on radio boards and DXers?

I wish they gave proper IDs with call letters more often than just on the hourtop. I think our friend, the late Bruce Elving, would agree given his extensive campaign to get the CBC to ID with individual call letters on the hourtop.

Somehow the answer to this ended up above it ![]()

Nice to hear that frequency clear. Thought I might have now heard CBC R1 in Shelbourne, but nope.

Easiest targets for Toronto area DXers would be Rome NY, Bay City MI, Ottawa ON, Pittsburgh PA, Edgewood OH, and Elliot Lake ON. I don't think I've heard Elliot Lake... E-skip has been poor of late but if an opening fires up there's opportunities from roughly 400-1500 miles.

I should add, too, that in the Buffalo market 102.5 K-Love has a couple of billboards advertising the station. It ONLY took them about 2 years to do this.... SMH....

Buffalo Bills fans were quicker in getting a 'FIRE COACH JAURON' billboard! 😁

WBKV has applied for STA for low power because of transmitter failure.
Does low power equal no power and wheres is the licensed back up transmitter of 8KW.

Hard to believe a station this size has been off the air for so many days. Maybe they can no longer get parts for that old Continental boat anchor :-)
Their absence has made for some interesting DX, including the Friday morning E-skip event that allowed reception of several stations, including this one in Texarkana:
Have also heard Rome, NY and Ottawa in the last couple of days. Wonder if any pirates might seize the opportunity and jump on this frequency?

I seem to remember the Rock 102 days when they were running RCA transmitters.

Hey, that is also my Sangean ATS909... same exact look and buttons and everything. Great portable.

darcyh: Yeah, I thought I saw a picture on the web some time ago of the Rock 102 Tx, taken in the later 70's. Should have kept it as I haven't been able to find it since. I suspect K-Love is running somthing much more modern that that Continental, since Star 102.5 had HD and I would assume the EMF deal included the Tx.
Saul: Yes! Both Sangean and Radio Shack had this model on the market at the same time - maybe 1996? The DX398 was the 909 rebranded. Good analog radio and this one's got a lot of miles on it. The RDS decode is a bit deaf by today's standards but otherwise, I've been very happy with it.

Tuned 102.5 just gone midnight and K-Love was back. Oh well, nice while it lasted.

Hallelujah!! Prise the Lord!!! they're back!! Good for them!
Unlike the 1970's they were still able to say they're not on the air when they're not on the air thanks to still being on the air through that modern day thing called streaming. ![]()
