Rogers service outage pain in the derriere

I'm one of the many Chatr customers unable to make phone calls due to the day long service problems Rogers has been experiencing Canada wide.

WiFi means I have been able to watch Netflix, check out Instagram, and read the EXTREMELY lame a** responses from Rogers on Twitter to irate customers. The company could not have handled it worse. As of now, no explanation as to what is happening, no end in sight.

I'm also thinking of the people who rely on their devices for home schooling, communicating with ill or isolated family members, this is not a good situation. As far as I know 911 still works. 😶😒☹️

Re: Rogers service outage pain in the derriere

I  guess I am one of the lucky ones with no service interruptions today. But yes, it is extremely frustrating when cable/internet/home phone are down and the only information you get is "We are aware of the issue but currently do not have a timeline as to when service will be restored"

Re: Rogers service outage pain in the derriere

Thankfully Rogers landline service remains unaffected by this outage.
No more asking me why I pay for both a landline and cell phone please.
Get it now? Always nice to have something to talk on when something else fails...er, as long as I'm not trying to call a Rogers cell phone, lol

Re: Rogers service outage pain in the derriere

An amusing tweet comment I saw earlier: "Did the Ontario government take over Rogers?"

Re: Rogers service outage pain in the derriere

I also will never give up my landline. If I misplace it, I can call the number with my cell to find it. This has happened on several occasions.

I'm not sure what other information could be provided. It's not like it was planned, and for the longest time they didn't know the cause either.

Re: Rogers service outage pain in the derriere

I’m with Fido. On the west coast, I had service this morning, but it went down sometime between 8 and 9am PT. LTE came back around 4pm, I had to power cycle my phone to be able to send text messages again though.

This was probably one of the largest telecommunications disruptions in Canada in the past 25 years.

Cell service back (Whitby).

Re: Rogers service outage pain in the derriere

All this calls into question the logic of Rogers buying Shaw and getting Freedom Mobile.

The last thing we need is LESS competition, which would mean greater disruption than what happened today. Had Rogers already owned Shaw / Freedom, then even more people would have been without service today.

Re: Rogers service outage pain in the derriere

To make matters worse, I heard on the news this was caused by a bad software update and not something mechanical or broken. Well done, Rogers.

Rogers is placing the blame squarely on Ericsson Software. Maybe so - time will tell.

We'll have to check for a bump (no pun intended) in the birth rate 9 months from now.

So far, no comment from Huawei.

Mildly annoying. I used my TextNow app on my Rogers phone and had no problems at all.

my daughter works for rogers... but luckily she had the day off...  plus her staff couldn't reach her because she has a rogers phone (silver lining).

Re: Rogers service outage pain in the derriere

A dark day for Ontario's middle class.Without their cell phones, they could no longer communicate with their middle class friends.

Without their aps, they were shut out from ordering at their favourite restaurants, Without their aps, they were forced to line up with the unwashed working class to get into their banks.

In the coming weeks, expect a big spike in PTSD  among the Starbucks crowd.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

Re: Rogers service outage pain in the derriere

Does anyone have any doubt that the Rogers game plan is most likely to give everyone a $2.50 credit, then turn around and jack the bill up a few bucks in a few months to pay for their losses?

And I'm willing to bet that us Chatr customers were the last people who had service returned to us....my cell phone service was out of commission until 7pm-ish, long after most Rogers customers got the use of their phones back.

Funny thing is, I keep getting offers from Chatr to "upgrade" to Fido, they even came out with a Master Card offer. I decline every time. It's not worth it.

Your post confuses me. Are you anti-middle class, anti-cell phone or pro Rogers?
