Bob Kinnear, the former head of the TTC local union. What a horrible leader he was.

Of the names above.....NONE are forgotten.
For a laugh, I auditioned for Larry Solway and Nuala Fitzgerald for a role in one of their productions at their Whitby Theatre. I didn't get the role.

I'm willing to bet that Kinnear is somewhere in the TTC Lost and Found... just that no one has bothered to stop by to claim him...

This was the guy who pulled all his union members from the TTC with absolutely no warning one night (I think it was a Friday) and went on strike, leaving thousands of people - including many young teenagers - stranded downtown without any way to get home.
It was an outrageous, irresponsible and completely unforgiveable thing to do to the public and it caused chaos for passengers and panic for worried parents, who had no idea how to get their kids home. The very least he owed the city was some advance notice. But his claims of worrying about his members facing possible abuse from riders if he told anyone ahead of time rang hollow.
I personally think they should have jailed him for endangering the public, it was that serious. All these years later and I've never forgotten it. Thankfully, he was thrown out of that position as head of ATU Local 113 and as far as I know, no one has heard from him since. Good riddance. (Or is that "good ride-ance?")

Going way back to the early 1960's when I was an avid CHUM listener, I always tried to catch Bill Drylie's 6 o'clock commentary. On occasion, late at night I would listen to Tempo Toronto on CKEY with Brad Crandall. I was working in LA in the mid 1970's and was contracted to produce a radio campaign for "Walking Tall: Final Chapter" for Bing Crosby Productions. I hired Brad and when he came in to the studio, I introduced myself and told him I used to listen to him on CKEY. He was floored. Brad went to WNBC after 'EY. Amazing voice.

John Gilbert at CHUM from 1971 until 1977. Speak Your Mind in 1973 was Canada's most listened to talk show according to wiki with a weekday audience of 120,000 listeners.

1961 for me, Doug. I used to listen to Crandall doing a music show Sundays on CKEY. Great pipes. Mr. Smooth. Played some great music, too. I just assumed that he picked his tunes, like most of us did, back then. He always played something by Kay Starr.

Gordon Sinclair - I recall from childhood Sinclair doing an entertainment segment, maybe afternoon drive. He reported that Elizabeth Taylor had another facelift. Sinclair said if she has one more facelift she'll need to shave her chin.
Show Business With Sinclair aired weekdays at 5:45pm. He also did something called Let's Be Personal at 11:45am.
