So the billions they fleece from the taxpaying public isn't enough without slithering up to another trough? 🤔💰

I'm not going to get into the pissing contest about the CBC fleecing taxpayers but doesn't it seem that this is targeting those who watch CBC programming and leaving everyone else alone? Isn't this a more equitable way of doing it?
The $5 they're charging for the app (I think it's a one-time fee, doesn't say anything about monthly) basically lets you watch the CBC broadcast stations live on-line and lets you watch the archived shows ad-free.Â
Becoming a "member" they're calling it. Where have I heard that before? Â
I'm actually a fan of their current streaming service, but I really don't know what I'd be getting for the $5 since I use a chromecast which, for some reason, doesn't show the ads anyway.

Sorry Petie...but I've never liked the way that they've [mis]spent ***my*** money. Not ever. THIS? No exception.

At least in this case, they are targeting their own viewers which is better than trying to nail everyone, whether they want it or not.
As for me? $4.99/month? I don't think so. I do feel I've already paid for the content.

You're missing out on "Kim's Convenience".

I watch Corrie Street religiously. Probably the highest rated show the CBC runs. Corrie viewers go on spin cycle if the show gets preempted or the wrong [repeat episode] airs in error. I am curious to know what kind of numbers the series actually does draw, particularly on Sunday Mornings, if anyone knows.

Good example. Why is taxpayer funded, Canada's national broadcaster, airing a British import? How does this show bind its citizens? Must be nice to have a bottomless pit of money to waste on this garbage.

CBC's most-watched scripted show is Murdoch. Premieres usually do 1 million+. It's been a while since I saw numbers for Coronation Street, but I remember it would hover around 500-800k depending on the episode in prime time.

Looks like the problem started a few years ago when they decided that OTA shouldn't be made available for free. Now, 3 years later, they're fiddling with new ways to generate revenue.
