The network made the announcement Monday afternoon, and you can be sure the audience will be huge.
No word yet on who the guests might be or whether the Nexstar and Sinclair stations that started all this in the first place by refusing to run the show will pick up the episode.
Jimmy Kimmel Is Back: ABC Returning Late-Night Show On Tuesday
Offline
Disney, which owns ABC, issued a statement on the return, which seems a bit disingenuous, but insists there was no political pressure.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country.
“It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
Offline
So unless those thoughtful conversations involve Bob Igor being his first guest where he announces he and the board are steeping down then the conclusion to this will be unsatisfying. I would bet Nextstar won't air Kimmel.

Thoughtful conversations, my ass. More likely "our stock is tanking!" 🤨

Enough time has passed that Mr. Kimmel should be allowed to recycle the following Jack Paar quip:

This is bloody huge news.
The good part of it is is the people who have showed that tRump can be defeated by the people when they have the guts to rise up and say no.
As of stock closing time Monday Disney had lost close to four billion dollars from people selling their stock.
Disney knows that was only going to get worse.
No doubt tRump will no longer call Disney "courageous" for firing Kimmel.
I bet he won't say a word unless confronted by reporters.

Regardless, I think we can lament the state of the US media. Can you imagine today's Washington Post owned by Jeff Bezos uncovering Watergate or today's CBS News challenging Joseph McCarthy as Edward R. Morrow did or questioning Vietnam as Cronkite did?

The cowardice within the so-called "greatest country on Earth" is profound.
It. All. Boils. Down. To. Money...or, as in this case, the loss of it. Pathetic. Obviously, for a great many reasons, the media conglomerates are a very bad thing, as is becoming ever more obvious.

Why is it, when some of the richest people on Earth buy media, they become milquetoast soft? It's quite simple, really. The ONLY thing that interests these people is more money. Standards? Courage? Tradition? Rights? Responsibilities? The greater good? Surely you jest.
"Democracy dies in darkness". Time for the Washington Post to change its slogan...

I'm glad to see my cancellation of Disney+ worked.

My wife actually suggested that we subscribe to Disney+ so we could cancel. 😂

Not sure about CBS, but both ABC and NBC led their newscasts with this story. I wonder what it must be like for NBC to essentially do a 2 minute promo for their competition's late night talk show, even if it is a big story. Not sure I've ever seen a situation quite like this one before.

Hopefully they can book Neil Young as a musical guest.

If Kimmel was fired for "low ratings", as claimed by tRump, why would ABC / Disney bring him back?
The president wouldn't lie, would he? 🤔

Awww, that so-called freedom-loving, Constitutional-adhering, MAGA-goosestepping Sinclair Broadcasting is still cancel-culturing. Remember how the right screamed about cancel-culture. Well, say it ain't so 🤣
But, but, but, they'll miss America's newest superhero, Gov. Gavin Newsom.

I remember reading about how Sinclair runs its shops. Access to office supplies requiring two managers to turn the keys to the locked cabinet like some deranged nuke launch procedure. They sound like a real Christian joy to work for. If things go as planned they'll get raptured today so we won't have to deal with them anymore.

I hope ABC starts dropping Sinclair and Nexstar affiliates over their refusal to carry network shows. There must be NBC and Fox and strong independent affiliates in many of those markets who'd would be happy to switch to the #2 network.

Kimmel: He might have to release the Epstein Files to distract from this now.

Haha! Prescient. There's a TV writer gig somewhere for you!

It appears possible that this reversal was to mitigate the damage from Disney's announcement of streaming price increases.

Which he DID do, albeit not in those exact words.

Jimmy Kimmel's show last night had about 4 times it's normal viewers. Preliminary ratings say 6.3 million watched Kimmel's return on ABC last night in the US. However, 23% of Americans couldn't watch the show on their local ABC station which was not aired by about 60 affiliated stations. The monologue was available on Youtube minutes after the program finished and by this afternoon had been viewed by over 15 million worldwide. Disney says over 26 million have watched the monologue on all social media around the world.

ABC certainly has the right to drop affiliates if the Nexstar & Sinclair affilates are breaking their contracts with the network.

Disney drops the hammer and goes nuclear telling renegade broadcaster Sinclair. Dont broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live.
You don't get to broadcast Monday Night Football & ABC News.

Can't believing I'm actually rooting for Disney for a change.

For those who missed this during tRump 1.0, here are anchors at Sinclair-owned local news stations parroting a script pushing tRump talking-points and the "troubling trend of irresponsible, one-sided news stories plaguing our country".
Perhaps some here, who appear so angry about so-called 'fake news', would offer some explanation for this obvious corporate-news-speak on hard-right media?
No? No comment?

If I am David Bronstein (the Prince of Love) or Svengoolie, I am putting Sinclair's stations on my speed dial. New opportunities afoot! 😁

hmmm .. but isn't Monday Night Football on ESPN, not ABC? ..
maybe best to wait for a more reliable, traditional news source for accuracy.
*edit* oops .. it appears MNF is simulcast ESPN/ABC .. my mistake : (( .. lesson learned, don't trust the internet .. triple check ..

Actually, I believe MNF does air on ABC. And depending on the area you live in down south, it's simulcast on ESPN. This coming Monday, for example, both are showing the Bengals at the Broncos. But the cable entity also has the Jets and Dolphins match as an alternate, depending on where the viewer is.
So it's a useful threat. This battle of wills (and won'ts) should be more fun to watch than the actual game.
Here are the national listings from next week's TV Guide:

The full ABC network carries Cincinnati/Denver. ESPN has NYJ/Miami. The game is also carried locally on WWOR and WFOR.
