This Newsworthy Name Never Fails To Make Me Laugh

This is just a silly observation but I can't resist.

On his recent trip to Europe, Prime Minister Mark Carney met with the German Chancellor.

His name? Friedrich Merz.

Or as we might say in English, Fred Merz.

Yes, Fred Merz.

Now if he's married to a woman named Ethel, my entire week will be made! (Unfortunately, her name is Charlotte, but you can't have everything.)

That’s a good one.

Putin/Poutine is always guaranteed to make me laugh.

Re: This Newsworthy Name Never Fails To Make Me Laugh

On the down side, Fred Merz was played by William Frawley who was by many accounts a horrible human being.
Not only was he a serious alcoholic, but he was a raging racist.
Vivian Vance, who played Fred's wife Ethel actually openly celebrated when he died.
She hated his guts.
But, because of the day and age it was made, the I Love Lucy show went ahead, and Frawley was tolerated.
He did not have any 'splainin' to do.

Lucille Ball knew about his alcohol issues but went to bat for him. She basically gave him an ultimatum. As long as you show up, sober, on time, and know your lines, we're good. His only request, which was granted, was to watch his beloved Yankees in the World Series each October.

I don't think he could of worn his pants much higher if he tried. I guess that was a thing back then.

Would they have been that high when he was in his teens or twenties? As guys age, they sometimes develop furniture disease. That's when your chest sinks to your drawers.
