On Thursday's first Moore In The Morning roundtable, Newstalk's program director and regular roundtable contributor Robert Turner did what he does best with his observations and thoughts, he both entertains and makes you think about something from a different angle.
During the discussion around Doug Ford's energetic? very vocal public response to the situation with the man now facing charges for (allegedly) attacking someone who broke into his home, Robert breezily and enthusiastically announced that Jerry Agar had just asked to take September 3rd off and without missing a beat Robert invited Doug Ford to fill in and do Jerry's show for the two hours.
I don't think he's joking, or is he?
What are the chances someone from Doug Ford's team was listening to 1010 and relays the invite to Doug.
Could Doug Ford actually end up filling in for Jerry Agar in September?
It would be quite the way to start off the fall radio season...
Cool move Robert Turner.

I remember back when Doug and Rob Ford hosted a program on 1010. I tuned in a couple of times and it was apparent that they both could carry a show, so having Doug Ford filling in would work and would probably make for an entertaining couple of hours, I’d check it out!

What about Doug Ford and Kathleen Wynne? A right/left combo. Years ago WABC had a show hosted by ultra right wing Curtis Sliwa and Uber Leftie Ron Kuby. The show attracted multiple calls from both sides of the political landscape. What was interesting was that both hosts would often play devil's advocate with Sliwa forcing righties to defend their position and Kuby doing the same with lefties.

That gets closer to the kind of talk I've always wanted to see. Forcing each side to deal head-on with the other could be the start of something much better. The trick is finding hosts who can listen and absorb and not just talk.

It would probably be entertaining, but not accomplish much.
Ford already gets tons of exposure on all media, including TV in the US.
Even if he took calls from listeners it would still be a kind of town hall, and he'd likely just repeat all his usual talking points.
Now it would be different if he took a show on 1010 when he's not premier.
several former premiers in BC have done that like Rafe Mair.

After she retired Kathleen Wynn appeared semi regularly on Jerry Agars show for about six months. She also went on his show a few times as premier. Jerry obviously didn't like Wynn much but the two were entertaining and Wynn tended to try and keep things more positive than Jerry's wallowing in the negative all the time.

She's still on the station regularly, with a weekly segment on John Moore's show.

At the risk of sounding obdurate, fuck Doug Ford and fuck anyone in media platforming him.

First, the previous comment is really not helpful or beneficial to anybody who comes to this page for useful commentary and/or entertaining takes on the media. I think the premier would be a fascinating host on any talk station. In fact, I would like to hear more politicians step behind the microphone and strip away the usual rhetoric and double talk. Take some calls from the public. Not everything has to be so serious - and you never know - one of these people just might convert some former voters to new voters.

That also applies to the rest of the Ford fam.

Maybe it's an opportunity to ask about greenbelt, wasaga beach hotels, developer friends, etc. If enough people call in relentlessly over an hour or two it could make for entertaining radio even if the calls quickly get terminated.
