On their morning news run today CNN allowed a one sentence declaration by Donald Trump concerning Isreal and Iran to play itself out with no censorship & no bleeping
On the south lawn of the White House early today, a clearly frustrated POTUS said the following to a reporters question... "Isreal and Iran don't know what the fuck they're doing".
Clear as day
Times sure have changed

You’d think CNN would have caught that in the edit, or if live, have the standard time delay. I bet it was intentional to leave the “swear” in!

A couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night there was nothing interesting to watch and we landed on Bill Maher on CNN and he used the "F" word multiple times. The first time it came out was a surprise, maybe an accident, but after several times, it was no accident.
Online!
CNN runs the show, but it originates with HBO, which has no language barriers. There's a lot of swearing on the show and has been since it debuted. (Last Friday was his 700th episode.)
So you're watching a pay cable show and I'm frankly surprised CNN doesn't go over it first and bleep it out. But I guess it's not worth the effort.
By the way, you won't be seeing it on CNN for a while. The show is taking its annual summer hiatus and will not be back until early July.

FCC has only fined over-the-air broadcasting for the "F" word in the past, and other misdemeanours - such as the "janet jackson nipplegate" at the grammys. Cable channels are not licensed or regulated by the FCC - so there has been no restrictions on obscene language on what the Americans call "pay cable"- though the new FCC chairman appointed by Trump seems to have other ideas.

It will be interesting to see if the OTA nets run the clip this evening. I believe it was the last thing Trump said before heading to the helicopter, so he wanted the f bomb to have maximum effect. Not sure if what he said was carried live anywhere. Often anything from the White House seems to be flagged as "Moments Ago." One of the networks once said that they always can't broadcast live from the White House, that there normally is a few minutes delay.
Trump sure ragged on CNN this morning. And the network did play the clip. I think he also referred to MSNBC another news network he hates. But he mangled the call letters both times he said the network.

On one hand, it's journalistic malpractice to keep providing him with saturation coverage. The best way to contra an attention whore is to deny them the attention.
On the other, his brain is essentially a moldering bowl of pudding coated in a thick layer of crushed Sudafed. Making it known is a good thing.

Oh noes, a swear! One that really isn't a swear anymore...the offensive words of today are not Carlin's "Seven Words".

The radio stations I've heard it on have bleeped the offending word, but you can tell what it is.

CBC’s World Report (on radio and TV) did not censor the f bomb this morning.

Nipple-Gate was the 2004 Super Bowl half-time show.
When I saw the thread title I thought CNN had called Trump a Felon.

Bleeping it is a mistake and typical of the boring, safe, and dull radio we have in this market.
I just saw CNN run the unedited clip on Inside Politics. It's honest and authentic and should be left in.

During my time in Ottawa, a minor controversy erupted when a CP photographer who was permitted on the floor of the House of Commons to get pictures during Question Period overheard Brian Mulroney allegedly refer to an opposition MP as a "f**king bastard". It was considered such a big deal at the time that myself and a couple of other reporters had to stake-out the PM's office until close to 10:30 pm that night before the PM finally came out and told us "I don't use that type of language". I filed two sets of stories, one in which I quoted the photographer using the expletive in full, and another with it bleeped out. The whole thing was a major pain in the a**.

And I guess that's my point RA. Everyone from presidents to prime ministers and (likely) popes has dropped an F-bomb from time-to-time. I didn't see the need to make a big deal out of it 30 or so years ago and I certainly don't care much about it now. My other memory of that incident came the next morning, when I was listening to CFRA Ottawa and the sanctimonious twit who read the morning news did a commentary in which he decried the media (which I guess he decided he wasn't a part of, at least for that one day) and talked about how we undoubtedly all celebrated the chance to use a dirty word or two in our stories. I resisted the temptation to drive to the studio and kick him in the shins to hear what kind of language he might use in those circumstances.

They did censor the F bomb on CTV News. Does it go against CRTC polices?

No, CRTC leaves it up to the station/network to decide. Even for over the air stations.

As a settlement with Lisa LaFlamme over her unceremonious termination, Ms. LaFlamme is allowed to censor stories not up to her standards.

Ahhh for the simpler, kinder days when the White House Watergate transcripts were published and we tried to figure out what the naughty (Expletive) was that had been (Deleted).
Nixon’s up, or down, there bellyaching, “I had to resign for that…now they let the President say it live on air? What next…a President having s-e-x in the Oval Office? That never happened when I ran the shop.”

Pope Bob is a White Sox fan. He's probably dropped an F bomb in the last month.

I can't imagine any newsroom getting CRTC blowback for accurately quoting any US president... nor should any responsible network or station self-censor this kind of comment... (ironically enough, I can't stand Trump, but to me the comment is golden and true).

The word was censored on CBC Radio I World News Report at 8 am on the Sudbury station and subsequently all day.

CTV National News did not censor the F word on the 11:00 feed last night... I thought they would.

Yesterday CBC Toronto news at 6 did not censor the clip

Actually he has been referring to MSNBC as MSDNC ( Democratic National Committee) for quite some time.
