Can someone let me know when 640 Toronto is talking about something other than tariffs. This coverage is completely overblown

No It's Not AT ALL. This will be one of the biggest crises in our lifetime. But I won't get into politics.

Can't disagree. Outside of the Ontario election, there really is nothing else as important going on Monday morning. And it will just increase as we head towards Tuesday, when the tariffs actually kick in.
I can tell you the noon, 6 & 11 PM TV newscasts will be filled with this for a good 5-10 minutes off the top. In addition to the story itself, there are all the sidebars, including consumer reaction, pulling American alcohol off the shelves, the effects on the vital auto industry, the cross border towns, etc. etc. etc.
You may get sick of hearing about it, but it's all they're talking about on 640 and 1010. And I'm sure it's going to be featured a lot on CBC Radio 1, as well. I would be very surprised and somewhat disappointed if they did anything else.

This sentence epitomizes how I felt following the events of September 11th, almost a quarter-century ago. I had CNN on at home and 680 in the car. All day. I didn't wan't to hear about anything else. I'm not saying that this is healthy, but it shows how high on the meter this story rates (because I feel similarly now). In fact I remember the first non-September 11th story that I heard on 680, and that was in mid-October, regarding the upcoming Windows XP. And I recall "Blurry" by Puddle of Mudd was the first song I heard on an FM music station on Edge 103.3 in Buffalo. Between that time, all I cared about was September 11th related news.
I hope I don't fall into that pit again, but it feels eerily similar.

sports radio can be a welcome break from the intense trade war coverage, a couple of hours of smart, interesting conversation about hockey can go a long way to recalibrate the anxiety levels

The radio neads to have more reporting on this issue.

I would be disappointed if they weren’t discussing a national crisis when it is news, that’s their job, they report and talk about news and 25% tariffs on Canada is news, bigly!

We will be seeing and hearing a lot about tariffs for the next 30 days at least. Also everytime Mr. Trump talks about us being a 51st state will whip the news media into a lather. Like it or not, Trump will be the focus for a minimum next two years. And not just here but around the world. He has already said a few times that tariffs are coming for the EU. That's why BBC and others have been watching the situation with Canada and Mexico so closely.

Trump is literally the antithesis, in every way, of our “Peace, order and good government” Canada.

If that's the case, then the media can go fuck themselves. We do NOT need all Trump all the time. This is why I am no longer paying attention to the news, because it's the same person day in and day out, the media parroting every goddamn word he says and talking about every goddamn thing he does.

Or Elon Musk. I think the one you pick depends on whether you are a young right-winger Millennial growing up as part of the tech generation, or an old white Christian National longing for the good old days of white supremacy.

Here's a question to ask the next time there's a lull in the conversation at dinner: you can have either Elon Musk or Donald Trump eliminated from the sphere of influence they currently occupy (nothing violent, they just become average very rich but not maniacally ego driven citizens with no interest in being in the public spotlight) who would you pick to get rid of to positively impact our lives and make the world a better place. And why.
I don't think it would be an appropriate topic for listeners opinions on a talk radio segment but maybe a variation on the theme might work....?

I think they each have a bit of both, but are also much more complicated than these two attributes. Sticking with just generalizations: I think both are opportunists. They would be Communists if that seemed the path to power. Both are also loose cannons - they're like 500 channels loaded on a TV set with just one channel...

I honestly think both are Russian assets, which would explain a considerable lot about their strange behavior. Trump, because I vividly recall him being shunned by every US bank for any more loans after a string of bankruptcies where the banks were left owed hundreds of millions by Trump, so he went to Russia which were more than happy to lend him money. Of course, over there when you owe millions to the Russians, they don't take you to court if you try to screw them financially, they toss you out a window or they get compromising photos/video of you and blackmail you for the rest of your life. It would explain why Trump constantly praises Putin and backs away from any real confrontation with Russia (while he simultaneously destroys good relations with every single US ally nation).
Elon, is more a case of just pure greed. If Russia gets its hands on Ukraine, there are billions of dollars of rare earth minerals that he can get cheaply and exclusively for Tesla and car batteries, and Russia would easily reward him with it if he did their bidding.
I'm just wondering how much more the citizenry of America will let those two get away with before there's finally a real revolt. And we're not even into a month of Trump's second term.

Quite plausible...
