I'm sick to death of uneducated boors spreading their MAGA-right-wing hatred of anything scientific.
This time they've taken down a metrologist's career.

How long before like-minded crazies here begin sending threats to weather reporters? Glad something like this didn't happen years ago during the days of, say, Dave Devall, Bob McIntyre or whoever. Here in the Ottawa Valley, right-wing nutjobs are everywhere, and I'd say it's only a matter of time before they do this to a local weather host like Matt Skube of CJOH/CTV, or whoever succeeded Ian Black on CBOT/CBC.

I remember when Brian Smith was shot to death in the CJOH parking lot…but at least that wasn’t politically motivated.

I seem to recall Lorne Honickman spouting climate change denial crazytalk on 640. Perhaps he has some thoughts.

From the article from the top:
'On Aug. 12, a West Des Moines Police detective contacted Hancock who, according to police, admitted to sending the emails. Hancock was then charged with third-degree harassment. He recently pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $105. He was also ordered to pay $76 in court costs and surcharges.'
This would seem to call for a period in prison, commensurate with terrorism, for clearly uttering threats like these?

Agreed! $181 is not even a slap on the wrist. If anything, it's a slap in the face for the weatherman and his family.

You know what will end this? When someone who's being harassed decides to go what I call "legal scorched Earth". In other words: Take EVERYTHING the party that did the act owns. Realistic? Probably not. But it sure will teach people to THINK before they speak.

He has a new gig and has landed on his feet.
A meteorologist got threats for his climate coverage. His new job is about solutions

Good for him. I hope he does well and reaches those who are willing to learn.
The anti-science sentiment among MAGAts and hard-right conservatives is baffling. Perhaps most of them actually do accept that humanity is dramatically affecting the world's climate. Maybe they simply don't care what happens to subsequent generations. They just want to keep clear-cutting, strip-mining, and ocean-dumping as long as they can roll in the dollars.

Perhaps if the two most populated countries in the world took Climate Change seriously, I might too.According to Stastica, in 2021, 53.8% of the electricity requirements for China came from coal production. In India, the total was 12.5%. Perhaps, the Greta Thunbergs of the world could visit China to enlighten their political leaders of the benefits of green energy.

CFTO Weather Specialist Dave Devall, just prior to his retirement, was denying climate change as well. Sad and disappointing for me to hear because like many, I grew up watching him and admired his career. I wish I had a reference but I don't. I just remember hearing him say it so it could have been on a podcast interview. He's such a celebrated guy, there's no way anyone cared to inject that kind of controversy into the story so I suppose people just ignored it.

If China doesn't do anything [and they won't] it will not make a damn bit of difference what we do here.

In response to Mace:
Countries by population (millions) and millions of tons of CO2 emissions per capita
China population 1,414, CO2 emissions 10,433, per capita tons 7.38
India population 1,325, CO2 emissions 2534, per capita tons 1.91
USA population 323, CO2 emissions 5,012, per capita tons 15.52
Canada population 36, CO2 emissions 676, per capita tons 18.58
Canada has, 9 times more than India, 2.5 times more than China in the CO2 emissions per capita.
USA has, 7 times more than India, 2 times more than China in the CO2 emissions per capita.
So both India and China are much better than either the USA or Canada in how they control carbon output.
Granted the above are based on 2016 data from Wordometer, the latest data available

There you go presenting facts again, Calhame. Don't you know that many people choose to function only on feelings, and their 'feelings' are often based on ill-informed inaccuracies.
Ignoring facts helps them with their pre-existing, anti-Trudeau, anti-progressive bias? Besides, slamming climate-change action is always great fun...until it's too late for our grandchildren.
It's another example of climate-change-denialism seeping across our southern border, through social media or outright lying on Rupert Murdoch's Fake News.
