-Talks a good game?
-Uneducated leaders who are still d*ckmatized by accents? Sad but true. No shortage of overseas cats with inflated resumes charming their way into nine lives in Canadian media.
-Friends doing favours for each other? This is a lazy, incestuous, uninspired business when it comes to hiring practices.

Several people here (and elsewhere) are helpful around ratings time with share, but it's been a while since we've had a glimpse at how those translate into AMAs around town. This has been making the rounds in the ad world over the last couple of months - mornings from this past spring...

This reminds of something that happened a long time ago, when Team Canada was playing in the final game of the gold medal match in the Olympics. Obviously, this was going to be a huge event, and I remember talking to my old much missed friend Mark Dailey about it.

He was scheduled to anchor CityPulse Tonight at 10 PM in those days, and sure enough, the newscast was on directly opposite the Big Game. We knew the audience that night would be tiny, so I offered him a joke prize of $20 if he'd sign on the show after the teasers by saying, "Good evening, both of you!"

Of course he didn't do it, but it would have been hilarious if he'd taken me up on it! (As I recall, they led with a copy item on the game in progress and the current score.)

Assuming this is men’s hockey you’re talking about, I’m curious which recent Olympics would’ve had Team Canada playing for gold at 10:00 p.m. ET?

The game was already in progress when the news began and everyone knew the audience would be very small that night.

Would’ve been tiny for sure, but that doesn’t answer my question. From the time Mark joined Citytv to his passing, the national men’s team played for Olympic gold in 1992 at Albertville, 1994 at Lillehammer, 2002 at Salt Lake City, and 2010 at Vancouver. None of those games were still underway at 10:00 p.m. ET.

I get this is just another “topic” for the sake of creating one, but you actually answered all your own questions in the naming of the thread. Like any other business, you’re going to focus where the money is, and where the people are. Regardless, I’ll humour you when it comes to coverage hours. The recent Sunday start times (over the air) seem to depend on which network is carrying the game.

2018 – NBC: 12:00 p.m. ET
2019 – CBS: 11:30 a.m. ET
2020 – FOX: 11:00 a.m. ET
2021 – CBS: 11:30 a.m. ET
2022 – NBC: 12:00 p.m. ET (preceded by Olympic coverage)
2023 – FOX: 11:00 a.m. ET

Adding (as opposed to removing) another layer here... This is what currently greets Pole patrons on the station website. Not sure who/what they're specifically referring to, but obviously someone with skin in the game?

Are any Southern Ontario stations attempting much in the way of LIVE New Year's specials this year? I would guess most of the typical DJ/mix shows on the FMs were pre-recorded days/weeks ago?
