AFAIK, some of the programming acquired by Rogers will be on Citytv+, Rogers' streaming service, and On Demand, while some will remain as channels available on providers who chose to carry them: Rogers drops multiple channels from cable in favour of streaming only - Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows News.

I'm not sure who that new imaging voice is but he's incredibly dull. True, there's not much personality you can inject into "You're listening to the Ben Mulroney Show," but somehow the guy they chose is so listless and lacking any emotion or life, it makes you question why you're listening. What an odd choice.
The old intro gang they used was much, much better.
To be fair, that's probably not the voice's choice, but the direction from the imaging producer and/or program director or higher.

While I agree that the old POTS worked when everything else went out there was one time that was not the case. I'm in the west end of Toronto (York) on the border with Etobicoke. One day everything went out. Power, so TV and Internet, cell service and my Bell POTS landline.
When Rogers, who supplies my condo complex presented us with an offer we couldn't refuse, we switched from our Bell POTS to a Rogers (VOIP) home phone. We went from over $100 a month for local calls and 13 hours of long distance across Canada and the US to $15 a month for unlimited calls across Canada and the US. The POTS line just wasn't worth it. As always, YMMV.
SOWNY » Why The American Election May Mean AM Radio Will Survive In Cars » November 7, 2024 2:30 pm |
IIRC, Trump was against EV's. Then Elon gave him north of 70 million dollars and a lot of free (mis)information on "X", formerly Twitter. Now Trump is fine with EV's but not Hydrogen powered vehicles. Elon owns an EV manufacturer and has stated there is no point in making a $25,000 Tesla. If keeping AM in his cars is going to increase costs, why would the new Reich allow that law to pass?

It wasn't Rogers, it was a Red Wireless CSR. Still not the way to do business.

I was getting calls and texts from Red Wireless, and spoke with a rep. She demanded my drivers license number and a credit card number be given to her over the phone which I refused to do. I am planning to go to the mall in Sudbury and speak with the various services that have kiosks there and check the options.
Sorry to hear that. That never happened to me, my partner or 3 other people I switched over from Zoomer Wireless to Red Wireless, only emails about making the switch when RW took over CityPhone/Zoomer and a few phone calls reminding us to switch, and the online application did require secondary ID. The CSR obviously should have explained why seconday ID was necessary. Without that, I'd have refused as you did.
Freedom Wireless has some good plans and supposedly have agreements with the big three to extend their coverage at no extra charge to a Freedom subscriber.
What I don't like now is most providers have a you choose a plan then a phone that you can get at a price on that plan. Used to be you got the phone and plan at a price instead of two separate prices, which, of course, are higher.

Join CARP and try to get on RedWirelss.ca's CARP preferred program. Redwireless is just a "front". Once you sign up, you'll be dealing with Rogers directly. I'm paying $35 a month for 5G, 10 gb of data and all the other add ons of more expensive plans.

Cool Edit Pro was bought by Adobe and became Adobe Audition. AFAIK, the last version of AA that was a perpetual license before Adobe changed all their programs to subscription was v3.0. I have the original install disks for v3.0, but several years ago, for about 2 years, Adobe had a free for download v3.0 on their website with a license that anyone could download and use along with a patch. I have that download too. A few people have gotten it to work on windows 10.
I much prefer Pro Tools and have been using it since 2001, but I know a few radio producers that prefer Audition and Cool Edit before it. To be fair, I know a few radio producers and Recording Studio owners who prefer Pro Tools. To each.

Anybody remember Granada Rent-a-TV? Hard to imagine, but they were once a big deal.
I rented a TV from Granada, a nice colour TV in a furniture-type cabinet when I got my first apartment in Toronto. When I left Toronto for my first radio job in Kirkland Lake I called Granada and asked if they had outlets in Northern Ontario I could rent from (I didn't have room in my van for the TV). The lady was confused about my question as we went back and forth for a bit. Finally she said, "We have a store in Barrie".

Death notices at 4 of the 5 stations I worked at. Lindsay also had the farm report. In Midland my first day started at 6 pm and right after the news I had to read the "Deads" live. The only time I had a problem reading them live was a Saturday afternoon shift in Midland. There was a name that was impossible to get right. I called the funeral home and the local newspaper and couldn't get anyone to answer. I went on live, did the best I could and went to a record. Not long after the "bat phone" rang. On the other end was a sobbing woman who finally managed to let me know she was the widow and gave me the correct pronunciation. I asked if she would like me to read the announcement again on-air and she said she did, which I did.
There was one incident in Lindsay when I was there with pre-recorded death notices at the noon news, fortunately not involving me.

When I was at Humber I interviewed Pete Griffin when he was at CFNY. One of the stories he told was about the format change from classical to progressive. He said it was like Christmas morning. Boxes of LPs showed up in the on air booth. They popped them open, went, "What's this?" "Don't know, let's play it."
Doug Thompson has my tapes of that interview and ones I did with Don Daynard and Jerry Good. Hopefully one day he will put them on CD or a memory stick for me as he said he would several years ago.

Also, over in the Kawarthas, you can have a listen to Canoe FM on 100.9 (and they recently fired up a small repeater in Minden for improved reception in the area).
Wally Lennox, who retired as VP of Engineering for Bell, but was also chief engineer for Astral, Standard and Telemedia, is on the Board of CKAR and technical advisor. They may be looking for a PD.
I've done some work for both CKAR and Canoe FM. Both are successful community radio stations.

The sound quality is (far) superior to the AM signal. But, in my car, it's not like switching between stations and the signal is there. When switching to 96.3 HD2 it's "acquiring" and then signal. And sometimes, it doesn't "acquire" or when I start the car, it defaults to 96.3 HD1, which sometimes is AM740 and sometimes Classical 96, as if the radio is on HD1 or thinks it's on HD1, but is actually on HD2.
