Pre-recorded newscasts have been going on for quite some time on 1010 on weekends...sad.

If they don't care enough to have a live newscaster working, isn't there a Canadian Press newscast they can air instead on weekend evenings? That would sound a heck of a lot better than a pre-recorded one with information that is no longer relevant.

This goes back more than 20 years when the late, great historian Mike Filey used to do a segment on Toronto during the AM740 morning show (in the pre-Zoomer days)...if memory serves me correctly, and I might be off, but I believe he said that the pronunciation of Balliol is Bay-lee-ol. 

For what it's worth, the program schedule on the 640 website now has "640 Weekend Show" listed on both Saturdays and Sundays from 2-5.

That's the only reference on their X account that I could find for this. That's quite the long down time!

Jason Frazer is also heard occasionally doing the weather on 680. He used to be located in Cleveland but I believe he's now in New York City.

If Steve Roberts is one of the casualties, that would be sad. He's one of the better ones.

It certainly sounds like the business editors were laid off. Other than Mike Eppel during the morning show, there haven't been business editors doing the updates at :26 and :56 past the hours since yesterday. The news anchors have been doing those themselves.

The Raptors are in a rebuilding year...as pronounced by the boss himself, Masai Ujiri, before a single game was played. Expect more nights like last night.
Vince Carter was good on the air. This isn't his first rodeo. He's done some work with the Atlanta Hawks and some national work on TNT. Commentary was fined but I tuned out at half time.
 

It must be for today only, because of Thanksgiving. Usually they play the sounds of a loon before cottage country reports.

After Rosie DiManno quoted the unnamed player, she said "pardon my language", to which Shapiro replied: "That's what I would expect from you, Rosie." DiManno then quipped: "You're such a charmer."

Unfortunately, this was the most entertaining part of today's press conference.
 

For what it's worth, I did hear Paul Cook say on air a couple of weeks ago that he was taking some time off for the wedding of his son. Of course, that doesn't mean Rogers can't lay him off while he's on vacation...and I certainly wouldn't put it past them.

The link RA shared indicates that all the CBC channels are set to launch "next month" on Pluto TV in Canada.

Pervin says in that interview the target audience of the station will be Windsor, rather than Windsor-Detroit, and also says they believe there's room in that market for two news and information stations.

I'm skeptical about that but admittedly am not an expert on the Windsor market and would assume he's done more research than I have...we shall see.

I believe the CRTC hearing on Whiteoaks' purchase of the Bell stations in Hamilton and St. Catharines is scheduled for October 8.
