Over the New Year

First, I was part of this group some time ago, left for a little bit but still followed and enjoyed most of the discussions. I'm not from the media industry but do enjoy following it.
Today I get most of my Canadian content from YouTube and Podcasts. I almost never turn on the radio or a TV station.
Over the Newyear from our hotel room I had a chance to watch an actual TV channel.
I was not impressed with CNN ( growing up they were a news channel ). Having what I think was one of there top on air people getting drunk gave me a reason to change the channel. I did get to watch CBC and was impressed with there Canada Live program. ( I only saw it from Winnipeg to Vancouver ). It looked like they used the concept of Cross Country Check-up and brought it to tv. Just talking to everyday people. For me this worked well.
On Newyears day on CP24 in the morning ( very big news event down south) I found paid programing for something the belonged before Christmas, not on Jan 1, 2025.
On Jan 2nd I watched the last half hour of CTV Your Morning. My only take away besides the lack of news stories and non bell ads. I only remember 1 ad for people over 50 with no life insurance.  No ads from Tim's,  Canadian Tire, The Bay, GM, Ford, Coke or Pepsi ( I'm sure others can add to the list )
Is anyone under 50 watching this show, and when will they move back to the Old Canada AM studio or will they shut down with the CTV news channel taking over that time slot.
Thanks for giving me a chance to share my thoughts with what I saw over the newyear.

My rant about CNN is its media bius.
It was allways a centrist channel but, Its now become to left wing.
In the US, most of the news networks have become to biused with the only option for centrists being wgn and news nation which you can watch online for free as an audio fead on the wgn radio app.
I ment listen.
I am more of a right-center person so CTV news does it for me.
City has become far-left and because of trudeau CBC is slowly getting there.
For american news, I watch news nation on youtube or pbs news.
I like some of fox news content for more of their talkshows but their not a news channel their a talk channel.
It should be called fox talk and opinian

Re: Over the New Year

Tough to find a media outlet without media bias these days. I usually sample a bunch of channels in an attempt to ascertain what the facts really are. CTV is probably the best of the bunch but nothing really stands out for me.

In the states, the most unbiused is probably PBS news fallowed by news nation.
Here in canada, its ctv news then cbc.
Global is more right wing and city is going more far left on the tv side

Re: Over the New Year

Being raised in a small village but now living in the GTA, my go to news station remains CKNX. There is something about a small town radio station that still produces local content in the local community ( including Friday Night hockey games ) that puts things in prospective. Yes, I miss the old days when the tv station was there and they had 2 sports reporters and 3 full time farm reporters. Time moves on, but I still enjoy listening even throw  for me it's online in a podcast.

I think that small town radio producers etc. put more into their work as they are part of a smaller community where everyone probably knows each other, so being accountable with your audience is more likely, like in the grocery store on a Saturday morning!

If you think Global is right wing now, wait until Quebecor gets their hands on it. (if they do)
They used to own Sun TV. Hopefully they learned a lesson, but I fear they may not have.

*This is not a political posting, this is reference to the fact that Sun TV was very much a (Heavy) right wing news station that failed to survive.

CityNews is not going far left. If anything, they might be centre left, but at least everything they report is true and accurate:  https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/680-news/

Re: Over the New Year

Sun tv was more of a talk or news/talk station.
More of their news was on weakdays during the day

Lets hope CKOC and CKWW step up and add localy focused talkshows and more news.
CKOC is now focusing more on the wider GTA now that Neeti bot it.
