Radio In 2025 & Beyond - Still Rockin'?

Dave Charles, now a consultant and a former on air guy at CHUM-FM and CKOC, as well as the creator of the Q107 format, looks into his crystal ball and sees a good future for commercial radio going into 2025 and beyond. Is he being too optimistic, or do you buy his theory?

Far too optimistic RA. He mentions demographics with older listeners remaining loyal and attracting younger listeners with influencers etc. However, I have a 20 year old son who has hardly listened to radio his entire life, only when he was in the car with me or his mom. My point, I think as us older demos pass, there will be less radio fans. I would like to buy this article but for the most part, I don’t, wishful thinking perhaps by Mr. Charles. Thanks for posting RA!

Worth pointing out that as a radio consultant, he has a vested interest in telling people how great radio is and will continue to be.

Well I’m still a radio fan, in fact Santa brought me a lovely Tivoli desktop radio, which also plays CDs, two relic formats in one! It also has Bluetooth for when I re-enter this century. While shopping, my wife noticed that many of these type of radios have dropped AM, not mine though. Why would you manufacture a radio without AM?

Much the same way radio instructors insist there's still good reasons for young people to enroll in the few remaining broadcasting courses available, as there's still plenty of opportunities out there. (Their words, not mine).
