I wondered what would take the place of the noon news simulcast on CP24 and at 12 PM, came the answer - a bizarre news quiz of the year's events with some CP24 personalities/anchors as contestants, hosted by Channel 9's Scott Lightfoot, in a huge departure from his usual role as reporter.
It was certainly unusual filler.
I wonder if they'll be repeating it at 6 PM, when the NFL runs on CFTO?

As I suspected, the show was repeated at 6 & 6:30 PM.
The only Toronto station with an actual local newscast at 6 PM was City TV. The rest had filler or the NFL. I'm all for giving people a day off but news is 24/7. That's just a sad dereliction of their obligation IMHO, although I know there's no one forcing them to air it.
I'd suggest a half hour show instead of an hour would work just fine. But none at all? That's just not right.

Having watched most of City's offerings as a newscast, perhaps I was too hasty. There's no real news and filler of politicians year-enders and the King's Message going on for four minutes are two things I could have lived without seeing. But the fatal fire story was very sad.

Well that was interesting.

For a second day, CP24 is showing this same odd game show to fill-in for CTV's local noon news. What's on CFTO instead? A simulcast of CTV News Channel. First time I can recall them doing that. The regular noon newscast returns on Friday.
All the local stations have a 6 PM show on Thursday except one - for some reason, CBC's supper newscast is replaced by a show called "Absolutely Canadian."

CTV said, when they cancelled the noon and weekend news across the network, that they wouldn't do local news on stat holidays anymore except for evening news in Toronto, so I think this is expected.
And, Absolutely Canadian is CBC's umbrella brand for whatever random Canadian documentaries they wish to air.
